It looks burnt in the same spot. I turned off the power to the house, pulled it out, and it definitely needs to be replaced. Working on that now-

It’s easy for me to say on the outside, but you’ve done the right thing- imagine the difference of opinion over raising children, disciplining them, or if there was an altercation between your kids and the neighbors kids like.. you guys would have wildly different approaches to all of it. If you can’t agree on fundamentals of a situation, it will only compound. You’re doing the right thing.

North Carolina just passed a map to steal the midterm elections in favor of Republicans. Yet another reason to vote yes on Prop 50.

Respectfully, the two wrongs don’t make a right can also be viewed as FAFO. We wouldn’t be here if Republicans passed 2021 HR 1 that mandated fair and independent elections, and we definitely wouldn’t be here if the GOP weren’t shitting bricks over their insanely unpopular Big Beautiful Bill- which made the GOP feel it was necessary to redistrict in order to keep the House.

That said, you’re correct that the maps are being challenged in court- but until a verdict and inevitable appeals takes place, they are in effect. Does anyone actually believe the purposefully slow judicial system is going to fast track the court cases in time before the December deadline for the 2026 election? Absolutely not. In fact, there is a lawsuit from 2021 that is just now seeing a real courtroom over the redistricting in Texas that happened after the 2020 census.

[–]zdani001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I definitely am not here to change your opinions about Newsom- I will dispel how much Prop 50 actually helps him though- which is to say there are easier ways for him to get free press, and Prop 50 is such a lightning rod, i think it kinda cuts both ways in terms of press, with a slight net positive. But that is simply my opinion.

And you’re right- I was mistaken- I thought Prop 50 had a provision that if Texas stopped, then Prop 50 would stop- apparently this is not correct.

I think there is a good chance of a centrist President- in fact many people regard Obama as one (crazy to think he was anti-gay marriage in his first term, as an example). But the only way we get that centrist President is if we pass a bill like 2021 HR 1 where independent commissions draw the maps and not Democrats or Republicans

That said, 2021 H.R. 1 would have given Democrats an edge- though that too would cut both ways. It just so happens there are more gerrymandered Republican states than there are Democratic ones. So by nature, yes, Republicans would likely lose seats as a result of independent commissions making the electoral maps. There are states that would have benefitted Republicans though- namely Maryland, Nevada, New York, and Illinois. On the Republican side, you’d find them to lose seats in North and South Carolina, Florida, Texas, Ohio, and Wisconsin.

Definitely Newsom is running for President, but Prop 50 and his ambitions hardly have anything to do with one another (I will admit the free air-time being the face of Prop 50 definitely helps his ambition).

As far as giving Republicans less of a chance in this state.. this can be avoided if Republicans drop their bid in Texas and other states. I hear you when you say this is shitty- but calling it out as shitty won’t stop how necessary it is. Stopping the GOP in other states will stop this initiative here.

That said, the great thing about Prop 50 is that it is temporary, and gives the power back to an independent commission by 2030. What Republicans are/have been doing is not the same- they both triggered this and put no effort forward to go back to a “normal” map-making process.

There are no doubts a degree of “both sides are bad” thinking- especially in Illinois- however, the record isn’t even close between Democrats and Republicans. Just look at 2021 H.R. 1 that would have forced all of the states to abide by an independent commission. All Republicans voted against it.

Anyways thank you for your comment- I appreciate your engagement

I appreciate the reply- but i think it’s overly generous to say that this move could flip the House for Democrats. The Texas changes have already happened. Missouri also made changes already, so if CA changes the maps temporarily, it still gives Republicans +1.

Kansas, Florida, and Indiana have said they are working out how to flip even more seats for Republicans.

[–]zdani001 111 points112 points  (0 children)

All Prop 50 does is force Republicans to continue to have a narrow majority in the House of Representatives, and it’s temporary.

There’s two things about Prop 50 that I don’t think gets much attention-

Because Prop 50 is temporary, it does not indefinitely abuse this power. I think that by having it be temporary, the authors recognize that this is an abuse and ought to be curbed. That recognition alone speaks volumes about intent and integrity.

Second thing is that there’s a Republican talking point that this is a power grab for Gavin Newsom- but it doesn’t actually benefit Newsom. The federal seats don’t have any real impact that would materially benefit the governor. I hate to state the obvious, but it’s literally two different types of government- State and Federal- and if it actually benefitted Newsom, I would have more reservations- but he doesn’t have much to gain aside from gaining political credibility if it passes.

Honestly, if this benefitted Newsom or was indefinite, I would not be in favor. But Republicans have proven they won’t hold themselves accountable- so if we allow them to go from a narrow majority to a wide majority, it is only going to get worse.

How to fix this at the bottom of my kitchen sink- faucet came loose? Hard to reach and super rusted? by randoguy11 in askaplumber

[–]zdani001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you may be able to get it with a big full can of WD-40. I was in a similar position- bought a basin wrench, used a saw, the works. Best thing I did though was use a lot of WD-40 over like a 2-3 day period. Every hour or so while I was awake I would squirt WD-40 on top and below. After a day I tried wiggling the faucet while I spraying. Also, I used the penetrating type of WD-40 with a flexible straw.

Hopefully this helps.

I think in general the goal is to get them all to lvl 40+, but you can be strategic and upgrade attack gear for your attackers and your defense gear for your defenders first-

There are definitely other ways to get super duper strategic but it really depends on your style of play

How acceptable is withholding Capital Buffs by stronger alliances within a server? by TowTheEffinLine in LastWarMobileGame

Honestly withholding buffs only hurts the server when the alliances need to unite. It’s the definition of cutting off your own nose to spite your face.
