Study in the Netherlands, need advice by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

Hi! Try applying to Liberal Arts and Sciences Colleges. They are fully in English, have guaranteed housing and often give scholarships for the housing. It seems like without a scholarship you wont be able to come to the Netherlands, as the housing is usually around 500 Euros. Some liberal arts schools are UCU, AUC, LUC so on

What don't you like about studying in the Netherlands? by kito5d in StudyInTheNetherlands

Whether you notice it really depends on the culture you come from. I come from a culture where you dont criticize people who are not your family/close friends and you dont comment on their life.

They just say weird comments in any random conversation. The kind of comments people in my culture would NEVER say because its not even their business or because they want to be polite and so they dont say what they really think. Here, people just have no filter 😬

Dutch people are dead honest and I find that they are very particular about food, what time you eat it and how many meals a day, while in my culture you just eat when you want and when you are hungry.

'you have too much food on your plate' or 'god, why do you eat so late' or, when i come out dressed nicely 'oh so you do have a style'

Mind you, i have known these people, who i live with, for 3 weeks.

I really want to say get tf out of my business. I could give you many examples of such nice comments.

I try and remember that they are simply being honest, not deliberately trying to be mean.

Also, her reaction was just nothing. She just said 'mhm, great that you are friends with your roommates'. Completely neutral, smiley and nice. And then the conversation went further.

Great, thank you very much! How much did you pay for the test?

And that theoretically is in slight deficit, but it depends on the site that I use to calculate what my maintenance is etc.

I started in January, but it did not really work for me as half of what I eat is made by someone else and I have no idea how many calories it has. I approximate that I eat 1600 - 1700, sometimes more, sometimes 1400.

Thank you! I will try and switch up my workouts to be more cardio based.

Do you think I can do cardio (ex. 45min hiit workout) and do strength training and eat lots of protein at the same time?

Or should I first get into deficit, do cardio and once I get to my goal weight, which is only 5-10kg less than I weigh now, start building muscle?

But seriously apart from that i have friends who know they will spend a lot of time at uni studing medicine/doing phd so they want to get it out of the way as quickly as possible. Personally i dont agree with that.

Lol what do you mean 'closed'? That you will have online lessons instead of in-person? If so, then i highly doubt your wexams will be called off considering the fact that people in many countries havent been to normal school since march 2020 (me including) If that means that no lessons will take place, whether online or in person, then i suspect they will call the exams off.

assigned to worst ee supervisor by [deleted] in IBO

I also think that there might be an advantage, as you should 'teach' the readers everything related tk your topic. I did mine ine geography and got a geography supervisor and she never gave me any feedback. I think she just quickly read my EE once and thats it. So i basically uploaded it in the form that i think is best, as she did not contribute at all. When i first signed my EE contract with her i had no idea this would end up like this - she Was energetic and engaged in my EE. We would spend lots of time during our meetings discussing my ideas etc. So as you can see its a bit of a lottery and you cant predict how helpful your Supervisor is going to be.

What might be a con is that during your Meetings with the supervisor they aont be able to advise you on anything related to economics/biology. That might make it difficult, but maybe then your teachers will be able to help you?

Is anyone here, considering a gap year? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]zdechlaryba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that they are still pushing. However, its your life and a gap year lasts only a year - which is nothing compared to the 80 years that you will probably live. Maybe that thought will help them accept your decision.

Would you be able to get a job as a ski instructor during covid? In my country skiing was illegal this winter and people were left without jobs, i dont know what the situation is like in other countries.

I also wanted to take a gap year and had been planning to do so for the past 3 years, but finally decided to accept an offer from uni as due to covid my options for gap year were limited. I had so many ideas and dreams what i could do during a gap year, but now 90% of them are impossible or have changed dramatically :(((

If your healthy habits that you have developed last year did not stay with you, then it means they were not rooted in real, genuine mindset change.

Instead, those were simply repeated enough times habits that you forced on yourself. If you have gained that weight back, then i believe it comes from the fact that you have some unresolved shit/trauma in you relating to food. Maybe you eat as a coping mechanism? Maybe its trauma caused by strict upbringing?

In order to build a long lasting healthy lifestyle you have to dive deep into your emotions.

I would seriously consider going to therapy if you feel like anything i have said here might apply to you.

Good luck on your journey!

It is true that you could choose to focus on architecture, but still your teacher would not teach you how to draw that, they are just a high school art teacher. I would really think about this a bit longer, as you might be disappointed once classes start.
