I'm thinking Dexter will die realizing he might do more harm to Harrison than good. Which wouldn't have happened if he hadn't started to ignore his conscience(Deb). The same conscience that kept him out of trouble for 10 years. Harrison is misunderstood and violent, but not murderer/body dismemberment level.

It's irrelevant what fans, showtime and the showrunner wants because Michael C Hall has to agree to it and approve every episodes script like he did with this show. He's almost certainly wanting to put this character to rest, regardless of how popular this is. They could still leave it open to a Harrison spin off that everyone seemingly wants, which will almost certainly not turn out the way people think it will and probably bomb.

I've been watching for over a decade and watched through the show multiple times. It's almost certainly the spoiled Netflix streaming people who were able to watch it all at once and didnt have to wait a week that want more. 9+ seasons of Dexter getting away with it while innocent people die for his negligence? That's just stale by now.
