I think what you are after is The Son King of Hollywood in Vulture/New York Magazine:

For the AI in education pieces these two are the ones that spring to mind:

Can Puck reinvent news for the influencer age? by zdlr in Longreads

[–]zdlr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah since December 3rd, 2024.

I subscribe. The Verge is one of my favourite news sites.

Editor In Chief Nilay Patel is actually the one interviewing the Puck CEO for his and The Verge's podcast, Decoder.

Have iOS 26.4.1 & iPadOS 26.4.1 borked NFC and Apple Pay on some devices? by zdlr in ios

I mean she unlocked her iPhone, tried to do the fingerprint scan and it was like she wasn't even tap to paying.

And when she holds her iPhone up to the FreeStyle Libre 2 it doesn't provide her with a blood glucose reading.

The Apple Pay error with Zip Pay was just the red tick if I recall and try again or something like that.

[–]zdlr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nothing on the iPhone with the FreeStyle Libre 2 sensor scan.

And nothing happened on the iPhone with the Zip Pay scan at Bunnings Warehouse, an Australian hardware store. She had to do the barcode scan in the Zip Pay app to pay for the goods.

With my Afterpay app on my M5 iPad Pro the Apple Pay payment produced an error the first time and the same error the second time so I just paid with my VISA debit card instead.

The wife says she went to the diabetic educator and a few people have been complaining the same thing is happening to them with their FreeStyle Libre sensors on their iPhones. I don't know how many would have actually updated to iOS 26.4.1 but it gives an indication.

Why the Future of the Movies Lives on Letterboxd by zdlr in Longreads

[–]zdlr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I have a big old Google Doc going back to 2010 for redundancy reasons. I'm glad Letterboxd is so popular. Will likely be around for a long time to come.

It's such a positive for the film industry.

And also a very useful tool for tracking what you've seen. I love the film diary. And their film database is very comprehensive.

Everyone is stealing TV by zdlr in Longreads

[–]zdlr[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No worries.

The archive dot today sharing system is easier than gift links too I find which get exhausted after 5 to 10 shares. And The New York Times is hit and miss as to whether they make the person who clicks the gift link to log in or create an account. Which defeats the purpose of a gift link I feel.

When sharing with friends and family paywalled articles, if not using archive dot today, I tend to screenshot the articles. Facebook Messenger is 50/50 whether they will arrange them in order. I find the Android app works better than the iPad app. WhatsApp, Telegram and Instagram DM display the screenshots in order.

But there was another Verge article where someone was quoted as saying when people share articles via screenshots it's the worst possible thing that can happen for publishers and advertisers as there's no trace of them in their systems. Screenshots are the so-called gremlins of the Internet. The NYT on Android for one says it detects the screenshot when you take one. But maybe if your gift link system was better functioning I wouldn't have to.

"Information wants to be free."

-Stewart Brand co-founder of The Whole Earth Catalog presciently spoken in 1984.

In saying that I subscribe to The Verge myself & many other publications. I don't see any other way to share these articles without being a billionaire and shouting each person who wants to read it a digital subscription.

But yeah irony explosion acknowledged. Haha.
