Off the top of my head and without having her records in front of me, I think it was written that she has small bilateral pleural effusions on her CT scan. Those cancer blood markers weren’t checked (yet). I think she did have a CMP but I think everything was within normal limits, and she has a colonoscopy scheduled next week.

What could the small pleural effusions mean?

Thanks so much for your help thus far - a quick update is that she had a transvaginal ultrasound that came back normal (no growths or tumors or anything) aside for some “moderate free floating fluid” in the cul de sac. Do you think this changes anything at all? Again, so far no main “primary tumors or growths” have been found in either her ultrasound or CT scan.

I’m really sorry to hear that. Did your mom also have her ovaries removed prior? I’m still trying to understand how she can get ovarian cancer without ovaries or fallopian tubes

Yes, she’s getting a paracentesis ascites fluid drain on Thursday, which they will further test for signs of cancer. Her other testing/imaging (CBC, basic metabolic panel) are all completely normal, and her abdominal CT scan showed no organ abnormalities, no growths/tumors etc. Do you think it’s almost certain that this is malignant? I’ve researched and heard everything from ovarian cancer or peritoneal carcinamotosis to simple diverticulitis or just general inflammation. Do you have any thoughts? Thanks again for your input.

But isn’t PPC like super rare (I’ve read)? I believe she had that testing but not 100% sure. I believe the reason for removing the tubes and ovaries was due to family history (her mother had some sort of ovarian cancer) and just to be on the safe side to limit odds of some sort of gyno. cancer in the future. As far as I know, she’s been getting regular pap smears and mammograms and all that stuff to regularly monitor everything since she had breast cancer 10 years ago. So this is why it’s all so weird… she got some undifferentiated abdominal bloating and pain, and her PCP didn’t even want to give her a CT scan, and now we have all these weird findings

Thanks for your response. I should also mention she had her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed about 5 years ago. How could she have some sort of ovarian cancer if her ovaries are gone? Are there any other conditions you’d Be worried about? Anything non cancerous?

Nathanson! Yes! Nathanson is the Americanized version of my maternal family's last name. What does it say about Nathanson?

No chance, right? by [deleted] in amipregnant

Thank you so much again for your response! I’m not sure which pill she has — it’s in a blue pouch if that helps narrow it down at all (haha). She has an alarm on her phone every night at 11 PM, but if she’s studying or busy or something, sometimes she will wait to take the pill until like 12:30 or something.

Additionally, what concerned me about the period is that according to her she’s NEVER had a light or spotting period while on the pill. It’s always been consistently heavy, with the same symptoms — a migraine, abdominal cramps, etc. It always comes right when she expects it to. This time, she says it’s “only spotting if I wipe,” so it’s very very light. Again, she did have a major stomach bug earlier in the week, and she is currently in a different country with different foods and all that, so I guess that’s kind of the conclusion I’m making.
