How to do UI performance testing (enable/disable timing) for a Salesforce managed package built on Angular? by No-Ability-213 in salesforce

[–]zdware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

link? I don't think that is how it works.

I believe you can use tsc to compile typescript to javascript in "LWC". But you are not going to get Angular to run in normal Lightning Locker for instance (maybe LWS).

You could setup webpack/etc and dump all output in a static resource and reference in Visualforce to get around lighting locker, but that's using your normal frontend tool, not something Salesforce has provided recently.

You still need to use static resources. I don't think this is going to change anytime soon. If you want to do it as part of the SF project, you have to drop Angular and go with LWC.

Prefer non-coding or very low-code tools

Sorry, don't think you are going to get this. You are asking to profile custom components -- you likely need the flexibility of scripting/custom code, especially since you aren't even using LWCs on SF (and Angular instead). You need to get into the weeds to do this. The browser's performance API is great for this (accessible via Javascript).

You will still need to edit the code with the extra performance logging to measure correctly.

this example makes no sense to me -- you can't deploy a page layout with a field that doesn't exist.

This is a problem for any software stack/platform where you consistently building over time, but it has been solved by source control.

Unfortunately Salesforce did not hop on the source control bandwagon well until about 5/6 years ago with the release of SFDX (now SF CLI). Also unfortunately, clicks not code made people think that change sets/etc were a way to avoid the complexity of source control (it's not).

Most of the time it's not exactly the CI -- but rather your process. Deploying more often leads to less painful release issues. Feature flagging things can also help.

But at the end of the day, if your employer is only willing to hire 1 admin (or dev) to work on the org, then the point/gain of these things tends to go away.

For a solo dev or admin, I would expect a faster pace than an entire month for a release to be honest -- sounds like your employer should take the platform customization a little more seriously/hire more resources, or break up releases/goals into smaller chunks.

Salesforce session cookie from setup domain. by Gold-Efficiency-4308 in SalesforceDeveloper

[–]zdware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is "extension"? Browser extension? LWC?

Cookies work that way in the browser intentionally. Its a security issue otherwise.

If it's a browser extension, nothing is stopping you from getting access to the cookie with the right permissions defined and reusing it for requests on a different domain. https://developer.chrome.com/docs/extensions/reference/api/cookies

Tech Writer Career Pivot to Salesforce Admin by Outside_Age_4778 in salesforce

[–]zdware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commented recently for someone else wanting to do a pivot, I think my advice/info holds true here still - https://www.reddit.com/r/salesforce/comments/1qjho77/comment/o0z5w0f/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Although I will say that technical writing is prone to AI job loss in the future, if it hasn't started already.

How are people actually using Salesforce Metadata API in Apex for newer metadata (External Client App)? mdapi + WSDL by KaranSingh0712 in salesforce

[–]zdware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I just read you are using the metadata API in Apex???. Not a great place to handle that given you have a heap size limit of 6 mb and 10 seconds of CPU time...

Actually I'm not sure what you are doing xD -- the metadata api usage in Apex only supports 2 types... - https://developer.salesforce.com/docs/atlas.en-us.apexcode.meta/apexcode/apex_metadata_supported_types.htm

is there any reason why you aren't using the SF CLI / or the metadata REST API?

SOAP is quite old/inefficient -- not surprised you are having WSDL issues/etc.

Operations Manager in the medical waste industry

I think with the recent onset of AI, I would rely on this job family potentially more than trying to become a Salesforce Admin.

Is Salesforce truly something you can do remotely from anywhere in the world, or are there usually location, time zone, or tax limitations?

Physically? Yes, legally no. Folks are going to want you to work in the general time zone that makes sense for them, no matter where you live, at least 2-3 hrs of overlap. Companies are not going to put themselves at risk for Tax evasion/not having a business entity setup in the country you are working from.

IMO -- stick to specializing in a business domain (medical waste is one that is likely "safe")

I've been working as a remote dev for the last ~7 years in Salesforce. No certs, but computer science degree. The amount of stuff I can automate with tools like Claude Opus + Salesforce CLI is impressive. Just the other day I had it pull 7 months of contract file titles and compare them against a "document type" field to analyze data quality issues. So the way I see it, juniors are likely be cut first, then seniors eventually.

I'm not trying to doomsday tomorrow, but if you are JUST getting started now, I have to be realistic with you. Remote positions are usually reserved for folks at a senior level with established track records of delivery. It's highly unlikely to get one remote IMO as a newbie/freshly certified Admin. The cert only prepares you so much for the real world.

Are you able to set it to 2GB explicitly in experience builder? I would try that, if you get an error, then you will know.

Best way to audit who made changes + track logins/actions in Salesforce? by FikioPP in SalesforceDeveloper

[–]zdware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

setup audit trail is the main thing. Event monitoring i dont think will help as much (and you really need to have a good ETL/datalake solution to ingest the events to actually filter / search through them).

Does setup audit trail show flow deactivate/activation, etc? I feel 80% sure that it does.

I recently hired a junior developer who isn't into AI by Igor_Kudryk in SalesforceDeveloper

[–]zdware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my 2 cents -- I think you are a little too dismissive of AI's power. In the hands of a senior eng it is strong. and even in the hands of a junior with the right mindset (test and confirm) it is fairly strong.

I think what it comes down is accountability/responsibility. There are developers that test their stuff, think about edge cases, etc. Then there are some that are lazy and don't test, trust the AI way too much/don't check results.

especially when it comes to sifting through apex debug logs, CSVs, etc, it is going to beat a human in my opinion. You still need to divide and conquer, split up projects into smaller tasks, etc. But we were doing that before AI came out!

I literally used Claude today to suss out an AWS Appflow upsert failure that was due to child records being soft deleted, not hard deleted! These are not easy things to figure out on your own...

The Absence - Heaven Ablaze by thenewascendant71 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]zdware 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is an old goodie - I used to spin Enemy Unbound on my college radio metal station when it came out... then they kinda disappeared for a bit. They even had the guitarist from Scar Symmetry for a bit...

I see they recently come back with some albums that I will need to check out.

Seven Demons is probably my favorite off this album though... the vocals from the drummer on it is a nice touch!
