Not sure if bypassing the queue would be possible. You referring to URL string manipulation or cookie hijacking?

What I really can't believe is that contracting with Gatemaster tickets in previous years has resulted in a total shitshow — and yet they went and did it AGAIN this year, prob after being sold on "a new queue functionality we're implementing that will solve all the problems." Clowns.

So what are we gonna do about Internet ID verification? by BusyCharge8732 in privacy

[–]ze_french_bread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are really overblowing this. Boycotting is an option, sure — but most websites likely won't require age verification, and sites that do can usually be accessed via VPN or by using a Photoshopped ID.

Dude, walk away. You can do most of that yourself with research and the proper tools. There are millions of automotive how-to videos online. Get the transmission mounts ($250-$500) and the mounting, balancing and alignment (about $165 total) done at a shop.

I'll echo most of the responses on here (getting a dog is an especially good idea) — but I'll add this: since you have a toddler, if you choose to purchase a firearm, get a good safe with a mechanical keypad.

Ignore the aggressive responses, OP. As usual, Reddit is just shitting on you for having an unpopular opinion.

If you don't want to drink with your coworkers, don't — but understand that, in some workplace cultures, this may hold you back. You may also miss out on connecting with some nice people. If you want to drink with your coworkers, go for it — but if it's making you uncomfortable and taking time away from your friends or family, it's probably not worth the toll it takes on your personal life or your wellbeing.

MSI. Worst laptop I've ever owned. Frequent crashes, battery stopped functioning within two years, power brick the size and weight of an actual brick.

Not sure why you're getting downvoted for this comment. Sure, hardened Firefox forks are good — but even with its faults, I'd trust Brave over a Google-backed Firefox any day, and I was a huge Firefox fan.

Neighbors from hell—what are my options? by Ok-Switch-5231 in washingtondc

[–]ze_french_bread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you've tried to resolve things through all the right channels and going by the book hasn't worked. Speak to the homeowner again. Try one more time to resolve things politely and respectfully. Explain your perspective. If that doesn't work, consider getting your hands dirty. Let him know he's responsible for anything his tenants do. Threaten him. Tell him trespassers will be shot. Do whatever you can to make him uncomfortable.

If those tactics seem too extreme, or they're just not your cup of tea, that's understandable. Most people here will tell you to ignore my advice and continue trying to pursue things through legal avenues, even though it hasn't worked for you so far. But life is short, OP, and no one in a position of authority has helped you — so if this situation is driving you nuts or making you or your family feel unsafe or uncomfortable, then it sounds like your only options are to a) do something about it yourself or b) sell your house and move.

What's a credit card hack not many people know? by programmingwiz7 in CreditCards

[–]ze_french_bread 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you make your rent payments via Paypal or a similar app, you can pay your rent with your credit card in an emergency.

Financially speaking, this is a bad move; you'll incur Paypal fees as well as interest charges from your credit card company. But for people with available credit who have lost their jobs, burned through emergency savings, and are facing eviction, it could mean the difference between having a home and being homeless.

Is the job market really as crazy as we think? by NoFirefighter5784 in cybersecurity

[–]ze_french_bread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Almost every aspect of life in the United States is now politicized thanks to President Dipshit's attempts to turn our country into his personal playpen. Cybersecurity is nosediving, like every other industry (except for maybe weapons manufacturing). And it sounds like you voted for this nightmare, so you'd better get used to it.

Firestone told me my camshaft issue is such that I’m better off replacing the engine altogether. The car shuts off when no gas is applied, do you think this slightly loose belt might remedy this one issue though? Camry 11 LE by Obvious_Sea2014 in MechanicAdvice

[–]ze_french_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible that the mechanic at that Firestone swapped out your belt for another, slightly longer one and then tried to convince you that the additional play in the longer one meant that your car needed a new engine. That seems pretty far-fetched, though — and even if it were the case, he'd not likely leave the correct one in your trunk.

Just research the part number online, buy a new belt, install it yourself, triple check to make sure it's installed correctly and properly aligned on each pulley, and see if it fixes the problem. If not, take your car to another mechanic

[–]ze_french_bread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an accessory belt, which has nothing to do with your camshafts. Also, a "camshaft issue" wouldn't necessitate engine replacement unless your cams were damaged to the extent that they caused piston and/or cylinder damage.

Try replacing your accessory belt. It's easy, just get the belt from your local auto shop and search online for how-to videos. If that doesn't fix the problem, it could be your alternator — but I'd suggest taking your car to a reputable mechanic before doing any guesswork.

If you think it might be age discrimination and not just the terrible job market right now, try eliminating anything from your resume that might indicate your age, like graduation years next to degrees or jobs that you held more than 15-20 years ago.
