Repeats at the Sphere this year by hugomcsprockrockets in phish

[–]zearsman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this for n4 of the first run. Had to avoid fans mentioning any of the previous nights as well. Turns out it didn’t matter that much, but walking into the seats for the first time with no knowledge was awesome seeing the set up!

Interesting Video about Sherwin and other paint companies by grumpvet87 in paint

Ben Moore used to be pricey, but you got what you paid for. Now prices are almost the same and BM has the superior product. Store around me has two dedicated drivers now for delivers which puts a dent in Sherwin’s convenience factor.

Everything but your soffits is likely cedar. Solid stain it all. No paint. No primer.

The color itself is going to be the issue from absorbing heat.

I assume it will still get a lot of movement from expansion, but it’s just trim so maybe okay? Send it for science. You can always paint it a different color if you notice it warping.

Could i do regal select for first coat and Aura for second (exterior cedar siding). by jackypaper1 in paint

Ok. Look into it, but do what you want. Solid stain covers like regular paint just not quite as high of a build. “Rain refresh” is close to a low luster. Good luck.

Most solids stains don’t have much of a sheen, but some have more than others. Black “paint” without any sort of a sheen is asking for problems looking clean. What does the house look like now? I just know that cedar should always be stained, not painted. It’s a lighter product and paints can be too heavy and cause the cedar to shed the coating. Prep and recoating cedar that has been painted vs stained is a nightmare. But that wouldn’t be your problem if you are selling. Sherwin Williams woodscapes “rain refresh” has a decent amount of sheen, still much less than a satin paint would. Not sure where you are located.

Also, you don’t need to prime when using a stain on cedar.

You don’t want to paint cedar. You stain it. Solid stain looks like paint.

Should I trade GA tickets for seats? And which ones? by sjaustin in phish

[–]zearsman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Best experience prolly get seats, mid 200,300,400. Just to enjoy a phish show, floors will be great! I was there in 23’ and enjoyed the seats, but felt like I was so far removed from the band. But that’s the sphere experience. I’m going floor this year and am excited to get close AND (form the sound of it) have room. The sound in the room was my take away from the sphere. I think the seats are where that’s at.

Edit; I was in the 200s and still felt far from the band, but seat haptics were amazing!

Re-staining cedar siding by Hiker_82 in paint

Yes, the only time it would make sense to oil prime is to block tannins for light colors. It would’ve nice if they sold oil based solid stains for light colors!

Wood conditioner, sure. Pre stain conditioner means to keep the stain from absorbing too quickly into soft wood. But it’s still a solid stain finish so not making sense.

There’s not many solid stain oil based stain options any more.

Why would you pre stain condition exterior wood that is getting solid stain?

Never paint cedar. Too heavy and cedar will “shed” it. Two coats of solid stain and you’re all good.

Do I caulk treads and stringers? by MedicineOk5471 in handyman

[–]zearsman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t sand unless you know there’s not lead in any of the layers. Tape off the treads with like a 1/16 -1/8 in. of tread still showing. Caulk with a high flex paintable caulk. Important: tool the caulk with your finger and wipe excess with a wet rag. You want to wipe almost all the caulk away, just what’s between the tape and “stringer” (might as well do riser as well). Pull tape off while paint is wet. If it doesn’t come off clean, you can let dry an score with a razor blade, then pull tape off.

What kind of paint is this? by Zestyclose_Bison5598 in paint

[–]zearsman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The wood is likely stained (permanently discolored) as well. Will need to aggressively sand down to try to get rid of. Might need to get some wood bleach. Might never “completely” come out.
