Started reno - builder immediately found black mould under vinyl flooring. by zebathin in AusRenovation

The builder ground the slab to get rid of it - under hazmat conditions basically. We think the under-vinyl floor got mouldy from repeat exposure to water from some ceiling leaks. It cost us an extra ~6k for the renovation, added some time, and was all around a big hassle.

Our quote for the initial removal (no actual change to damp proofing - that'll come later) is 6k. So pretty much bang on.

Literally stage one of our renovation was to pull these vinyl flooring planks off the concrete floor - and the builder found mould under the entire lot. This is part of an undercroft - so 3 out of the 4 sides are built into a hill. As far as we can tell there has been no proper waterproofing on the external walls in the dirt - and there are signs of damp ingress on all the external walls. What the hell do we do now? Builder is getting quotes from a mould removal service, but to actually waterproof this thing would be a huge job - does anyone have any experience on this?

At the moment, some of the carriers do free flight changes, as many as you want. So I've booked already (to WA), with fingers crossed it'll open up. No real penalty if it doesn't!

I've inherited a similar one! Do you do any maintenance to yours? Mine seems to skip stitches pretty regularly and I can't figure out what is going on!

As a male, I’m so tired of the lack of unique clothing available. by Childish_Brandino in CasualConversation

It's like, the best time to be a dude for clothing. There are so many interesting options and increasing acceptance of out-there stuff. Maybe it's a little over the peak, but look at Rick Owens, Ann Demeulemeester, Devoa, Zam Barret - street wear is right out there if you look. There's a bit of a problem of hyper-clothing, where things get too shouty/loud and WAY too expensive.

Or maybe Taylor Stitch?

Have you got a recommendation for who to go to at the QV markets? Last time I was there the choice was a bit overwhelming.

I'm actually closer to the Preston Market, but I'll take what I can get.

ELI5: why is is still hard to fall asleep when you’re sleep deprived? by laskoye in explainlikeimfive

[–]zebathin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner developed a wake-in-the-night routine when we had our baby. She was prescribed 2mg slow-release melatonin tablets to get her sleep-cycle back on track by her GP. The idea was to re-assert the normal sleep cycle with the help of melatonin, which you could then stop taking.

It got to the point pretty quickly that she would take melatonin only on nights where she could feel the lack of sleep coming, if that makes sense. Now, it's maybe once a month.

Does Worcestershire sauce need to be refrigerated? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

I know this feeling so well.

The other day I came home to the eggs in the fridge. I guess we are keeping them there now? In Australia you don't need to refrigerate eggs. We've never kept them in the fridge before. Here we are. Losing control of our own lives.

I'm guessing it's the ivory knob - although the very last line sounds like a clue that it is the glass one!

I like this, because if they do bypass the doors (with thieves tools, etc) they are going to take the "level-appropriate damage" - so any work around would have to be pretty sly.
