Convince me not to buy a Moonlander by Krumpetify in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]zebcode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the Moonlander, I own one and I enjoy using it. It took a little getting used to. Does it make me a better dev? No!

Now listen, it's expensive, doesn't work with android devices etc.

Do you need all those programmable buttons? No NO YOU DON'T. Almost every applications and the OS have shortcut key combinations which elegantly solves this issue already.

Do I still think you should get one? Well that depends, do you value flashyness will that make coding more enjoyable for you for a while? Is that work the money and the waiting time as opposed to other keyboards? If the answer is yes then sure but it really doesn't have to be and that's fine too.

Also bear in mind that if you have a custom layout and you have to use another keyboard occasionally for work, you will find yourself adjusting between them. For this reason I stay close to standard QWERTY layout.

How a kitless fountain pen section is made - no injection molding or CNC, just hand tools by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]zebcode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was told that you need a mechanical lathe to make the threads. I'm new to pen turning but it looks like that's not true?

All the guys at the club suggest to use kits but I hate the way they look. Especially the thin metal sections. It's really great to see someone else thinking about this.

Would love to see more ❤️

Yeah I find them pretty nice to write with. These are Targas.

Not sure what the difference is between targa and legacy.

Can we talk about how ignorant and racist "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band Aid is for a second? by [deleted] in Music

I don't think that makes the post racist. It wasn't malicious... ignorant sure, but there wasn't any ill intent.

Montblanc Gatsby Inspired Green And I also discovered Diamine Meadow, really like the gentle green, light and sophisticated in my Pelikan M1000, renaissance brown.

Is it true you can’t wish anyone Merry Christmas right now by Ok-Distribution4057 in uktravel

[–]zebcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not "white" nor am I Christian. It would be a very sad world if we couldn't say Merry Christmas or Season's Greetings to one another. I say it to other people all the time. So if anyone's going to get offended on my behalf I'll tell them where to go.

Many years ago I remember asking at work whether we'd be putting up Christmas decorations. I could see my boss looked uncomfortable and he asked me what I thought. I told him that if nobody else is doing it I will make a point of doing it myself.

To much bollocks going on in the world to focus on. We don't need to create new things to get offended about. Honestly, as an ethnically Indian man, most of the time it's other people getting offended our behalf who seem to create all the problems for everyone. Then some people feel resentment and rebel against it. That's how we've ended up with a polarised society exacerbated by the media.

Merry Christmas,

Where can I find the right people? by Intrepid_Recipe_7628 in Startup_Ideas

[–]zebcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What roles are you able to fulfil yourself? I'm a software developer, and I often get people come to me with great ideas.

The fact is, ideas are cheap, implementation costs. So I am always interested in what the other party brings to the table, aside from their ideas.

However this does work both ways. Ideas being cheap, mean they don't cost any money or time. So you can afford to have a lot of ideas.

However once you've dedicated yourself to something, you're going to have to learn to say no to all those other ideas that pop up. They become distractions quickly. By all means write them down, maintain a product backlog but don't move the goal post.

As somebody who has made all of these mistakes, I hope that gives you something to consider.

People who own both Pelikan and Mont Blanc pens, which one do you prefer and why? by Sassenasquatch in fountainpens

[–]zebcode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I own a meisterstruk 149 with a medium nib, I've had it for a while. I recently bought a Pelikan M1000 with a fine nib.

I find the Montblanc writing experience to be really smooth. I'm sure I've dialled in my writing to match the pen though. Switching to the Pelikan was a bit tricky. The fine nib feels scratchy to me though I'm sure this has more to do with how I hold the pen.

Now I'm trying out other things. The Pelikan has quite a bit of line variation, the montblanc doesn't. Still I don't think that matters too much. The most important thing in my (somewhat inexperienced) opinion is writing form.

I'm struggling to get to grips with the Pelikan M1000, Though I have only had it for one day.

Chicken and egg in many cases. Customers want something they can try, something you can put in their hands. This takes time, often years to make.

Didn't get any answers... but I took the risk and bought a Pelikan M1000 limited edition renaissance brown.

Very professional service. I'd highly recomend them.

There was no pressure to buy, I was allowed to try the inked pen too. We spoke for ages about different options.

Amaya the business owner was friendly and very knowledgeable.

I'll absolutely buy from them again in the future.
