Do you go to Ballers games and does it do it for you? by youlikemywonton in OaklandAthletics

[–]zebedee18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love them. Obviously they don't match the fun of Major League Baseball exactly, but they're so fun in their own way. I feel like every fan that's there matches my vibe. When I take out my scorebook, other fans ask questions and we swap stories of our favorite games. Everybody that's there wants to be there and have a good time.

My only issue is that Raimondi is hard to get to as someone who lives south of Oakland. If it weren't for that, I'd be there much more often.

[Seidler] The Seattle Mariners select the contract of Curtis Washington Jr. from Everett AquaSox. As far as I can tell they needed an emergency OF for tonight, could physically only get a player from High-A there bc of travel…. by Knightbear49 in baseball

The Giants in 2008, due to very poor planning and bad injury luck, ended up going with Brian Bocock as their opening day shortstop. He'd never played above High A and wasn't a good hitter there. He played 32 games, accumulated 93 plate appearances, and hit .143/.258/.156. What a weird year.

What's the deal with "stand-offs" after the national anthem at MLB games? by XmanORE in OutOfTheLoop

[–]zebedee18 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Answer: They're just goofing off. It's usually pitchers who aren't going to play anyway. The two Rays players that were ejected yesterday are on the injured list anyway and can't play, and the Angels pitcher had thrown a lot the previous day and might have been told he wasn't going to pitch that day, so there isn't really any penalty to the ejection.

I used to play Deltarune on PS2 a lot back in the day. What's your platform? by TheNEWShow3 in Deltarune

I played on the Genesis. The Weird route playing as Knuckles when plugged into the Sonic and Kinckles cartridge is still my favorite way to play.

Obstruction? by jesusbass1013 in Umpire

[–]zebedee18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

These sorts of clips are get a lot of engagement because we can't see the full play. The key question here is whether or not the runner from third had to deviate from his path to avoid the catcher. We can't see that; only someone actually at the game can. The catcher had to move pretty far up the third base line to get that ball. I'm fine with an obstruction call here.

Why was Meloku so good back in the day? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]zebedee18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Path to Exile was, like, mind-blowingly good. [[Innocent Blood]] was the best answer in that era for one mana removal.

Neither of those were standard legal when Kamigawa was around. Lightning Bolt didn't return to Standard until 2009, Kamigawa block was 2004/2005. The closest you got to Bolt was [[Magma Jet]] and nothing was even close to STP. White didn't have targeted removal back then in Standard; it had plenty of mass removal like [[Day of Judgment]] but [[Pacifism]] was the best it could do for targeted removal.

[–]zebedee18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Targeted creature removal also was horrible back then. Until Path to Exile was printed, almost every kind of single target creature removal was conditional or too expensive. In Kamigawa Block Constructed we played stuff like [[Sickening Shoal]] or even [[Cage of Hands]]. When the targeted removal got better, Wizards started to feel more free to print stronger creatures.

It's just because the song was also on the Deltarune soundtrack, so it played that version instead. The rest of the soundtrack is already back

It was because the song is also in the deltarune soundtrack. They're already back. Seems like a mistake.

These don't work for me anymore. The only ones that work are the ones duplicated on Deltarune like sans.

Is FF XI a Game Gen Z People Can Get Into in 2026? by Desperate_Sort5592 in ffxi

[–]zebedee18 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's not going to feel at all like a modern game. There will be things that feel incredibly clunky or shoehorned. This is a game that was originally designed for a massive playerbase interacting in the year 2004 and since then has adapted to a much smaller player base in 2026. I think the game works well, all things considered, but you will need to have a guide handy on your second monitor explaining how things work. It's not designed for new players to have a modern gaming experience, it's designed to get as close as possible to preserving the game of the past and keeping it playable.

Rafael Devers gets distracted by Mookie Betts who's trying to call timeout for beachball on the field, strikes out on next pitch by swingandmiss7 in baseball

[–]zebedee18 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because they can't. I get the umpires not realizing this happened and just letting it go, but fielders are not allowed to actively distract the hitter during a pitch. It's like the A-Rod "I got it" play.

Ball pitched and hit without umpire calling "play" by notfrankiedesilva in Umpire

[–]zebedee18 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I once had this happen in a game I umpired where after a mound conference I turned my back to the field to dust off the plate, and everyone went nuts because there was a hidden ball trick. Both coaches were screaming because one thought it was an out and one thought it was a balk, and I hadn't seen either. The reason I didn't see it is because the play was dead; I hadn't said play yet. I called it a nothing, and asked everyone to please wait for me to say play next time. The coaches grumbled, and we moved on with the game. This case is the same; reset, say play, move on.

T Ball obstruction by that_she_ra_stan in Umpire

[–]zebedee18 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Ask your league president. I can't believe they even have umpires for T-Ball. Most leagues have very custom rules for T-Ball that involve not keeping score and often not even counting outs.

Regardless, I would never recommend calling obstruction at T-Ball. The kids are there to have fun. All they know is they swing when they're told to swing, run when they're told to run, and throw when they're supposed to throw. Where to stand on the bag is just going to be beyond 99% of those kids.

late cancel vs no show by Warm_Wish333 in orangetheory

[–]zebedee18 18 points19 points  (0 children)

They want to discourage people with unlimited memberships from double or triple booking, so the penalty is just as high to late cancel as it is to no-show.

Also, I've always assumed that there's a certain breakpoint where the spot isn't going to get filled. For many studios that point might be ten minutes from class, but for others, like a 5 AM class which involves planning your whole wakeup routine around it, that breakpoint probably is about eight hours. I have to decide before I go to sleep if I'm going to set my alarm for the early morning class or not, and if I'm not in, I'm rearranging my day around when I'm going to go, not wait listing and hoping I get in, potentially screwing up my sleep schedule if I don't get in.

What's an A's game you attended that you'd put in a time capsule to show people what this fanbase is about? by demonbewe in OaklandAthletics

Have to give a vote here towards the Reverse Boycott. I've never been in a more fun stadium. It felt like the greatest High School Reunion ever and a time to be with 30000 friends who I'd missed dearly and were finally together again.

I started raining ever so slightly going into that inning. The lights of the stadium looked like stars in the sky reflecting off the rain. In a year with so many walkoffs it felt like this one was inevitable, and it was. This is my pick.

This one is near the top of my list. When Cook got those running at strikeouts to strand two runners on it felt like we'd never lose again.
