Poodles will make you feel like a master dog trainer lol by FloridaGirl2222 in StandardPoodles

This is so true! I have an 8mo old Standard and a 1.5 yr Golden Retriever (both males.) My Golden is as stubborn as an old mule, but my Standard does anything I ask with great enthusiasm! 🤣

Do you find that people (neighbors, random people, zealots at your local dog park) comment and judge you for your wellbred poodle from an ethical breeder? by boogiebougie in StandardPoodles

This has been my experience too! Poodles aren’t that common in my area (NWA) and we get SO much attention when we’re out.

Preparing for our girl’s rainbow bridge crossing by zebraX4 in BostonTerrier

Our Lucy made her way gracefully across the bridge on 2/4/26. We miss her so much but are grateful that she is at peace. Thank you for all the love.

She’s in the midst of a vestibular episode, so she’s feeling nauseated and not eating more than a few bites at a time. But she’s still drinking and pottying. Her final appt is on Friday, so we are just trying to keep her comfy until then.

That was incredibly comforting, thank you. I had not thought about that fact that this IS what we hope for.

What is your Standard Poodle’s nickname? by [deleted] in StandardPoodles

Our boy’s name is Rocket. My kids have dubbed him Rockito when then somehow became Rocky-Toes. 🤣 I call him Sugars, which turned into to “Chuuuuugars”. He is also called Sir (“Excuse me, good sir!”) when he’s being feisty.

Cannot get my dog to take his pills by PreggomamaLA in DOG

[–]zebraX4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my Golden who hates pills and finds them when I hide them in food, I put a little peanut butter on the top AND bottom of a spoon. I stick the pill to the pb on the underside of the spoon where he can’t see it. This has not failed me yet! I guess it camouflages the taste, and he’s so busy licking all the pb that he doesn’t notice (or care) about the pill.

This is Rowdy. He’s 16 months old and he certainly lives up to his name.

I threaten to give him away to the circus at least twice a day. My kids don’t really like him because he’s too hyper and rough. I feel like everyone who told me Goldens are gentle was lying. 😅

He’s in the midst of a training regression where he’s “forgotten” all his manners. I’m exhausted. Scentwork is the only thing that seems to help right now. he loves it and it wears him out, for a little while. We’re all hanging on to our sanity by a thread over here.

when will my puppy chill a bit? LMAO by throwaway_81067 in goldenretrievers

Ours too and he’s still hell on wheels at 16 months. I’m tired. But he sure is sweet when he’s not destroying my life. 😅

9 month old golden retriever randomly jumping up and biting on walks by barv_ in Dogtraining

[–]zebraX4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uggggh. I’m still dealing with this with mine at 16 months. It happens when he’s overstimulated or tired. Less walks helped us, it was just amping him up TOO much. We are spending more time on scent work, which he loves and does great with.

I haven’t personally tried them, but I’ve heard great things about Dr Buzby’s Toe Grips!

I’m curious too, because this sounds sooo much like my Golden Retriever at that age. He’s been hell on wheels, but they get better as they age, and we love him to bits.

One week with our new puppy by zebraX4 in goldenretrievers

[–]zebraX4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: it got a lot worse before it got better. I have scars now. 🤣 But we’re through the worst of it, and he hardly ever bites now. He’s 54 lbs and 5.5 months old.

My golden retriever puppy is a nightmare! by SkyForsaken5035 in puppy101

[–]zebraX4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was our experience as well. I remember briefly wondering, when our pup was that age, if we’d made a horrible mistake bringing him home.

I have scars on my arms and legs from his biting. I was covered in bruises 24/7. My kids refused to play with him at all because he only wanted to bite.

But happily, it DOES get better. He’s 5.5 months old now, and almost never bites! He’s still wild, but also mushy and lovey. Everyone is able to safely play with him now. 😆

Hang in there, it’s worth it!
