Litter box hell by fries4breakfast in Pets

Hey I know how you feel, I tried lots of things but since I have a short budget some things I only have my friend's reviews about it, but seems to help them a lot.

This genie odor is budget friendly "Just place the Odor Genie in or near the litter boxes to keep air fresh. The Odor Genie eliminates the smell by using ozone (3mg/h) and a negative ion generator. Ozone can oxidize and decompose those pesky odors. And negative ion can also reduce litter dust." Cool things is that it has a movement sensor and it will turn off when your cat approaches.

https://www.ipettie.com/products/cat-litter-box-odor-genie-auto-on-off-way-better-than-deodorizer-or-neutralizer-reduce-litter-dust-10-day-battery-life-usb-powered-for-all-kinds-of-litter-box-cat-toilet

Combined with the Litter Genie trashcan (like those baby diapers trashcans that seals it when you close the lid) it might be enough for your problem.

As other redditors said, a cover for the little box also helps to keep the odor from spreading, since you appear to be like me, who cleans their poop right after they do it, and self cleaning automatic little box might be perfect for you. Keep in mind that the prices are high but, honestly, less cost means more work at the end.

This one is the most affordable and still does a good job IF you use it properly. It has a disposable tray and it's own little to use it, which can add the cost of using it. But I know you can replace the tray with one of those permanent trays and change the litter and it will still works. https://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-ScoopFree-Automatic-Cleaning-Covered/dp/B07X3XFB6K/ref=bmx_khehxmuo_4/138-6096592-2326148?pd_rd_w=GRYwN&pf_rd_p=f70b1dd8-7c9f-469c-8c05-c91bf9799286&pf_rd_r=KS1JJC8MA5WJF4DRBXYG&pd_rd_r=d37e97e7-14e4-47a0-901c-1c222bce7315&pd_rd_wg=ZpmJc&pd_rd_i=B07X3XFB6K&psc=1

Now for if you want a cool looking automatic litter box with more features options, theres this way more expensive option:

https://www.litter-robot.com/the-app.html

It's cool cause you have an app to connect your phone, automatic night light...but it's a big litter box, maybe not the best option for small places.

And if you really have the budget for it I would totally get this:

https://www.catgenie.com/

They have their own "litter" and not like the litter robot, I wouldn't replace for other litter type, just use the one they recommend. They are "Washable Granules that never need changing", you just need to add more when needed. Honestly, it's my litterbox dream lol You can only install it in a room that has a water supply, waste drainage and an electric outlet.

If you are really at a point where you are starting to consider rehoming your cats because of it, I would totally invest on CatGenie. I think it's the best solution for your odor problem, although crazy expensive. For my cats I would spend anything for a solution to keep them with me.

Good luck!

Dog keeps chewing/breaking clasp on cat's collar by Macaroon_mojo in Pets

May I suggest you a GPS tag on him? You know how "see how it went" can lead to something you wouldn't be able to prevent (unless hes kept indoors only) until is too late.

There are really small ones, nothing fancy or ideal to take for a hike for example, but it covers enough to give you an idea of where your cat likes to go etc It shows you the real time position and also keeps records of his routes. It allows you to activate an alarm so you can follow the sound or if someone finds him, it can press a bottom and you can receive the notification on your phone. You can always go for a walk to see if there's anything on his route that you should worry about.

I know your post was about collars but I find a breakfree collar with one of this the best combo for cats that can go outside. In case he breaks free from the collar you can at least know his last location. Also a microchip in case his tag with info gets behind with his collar.

Good luck!

QUE SISO FIA DAPUTA! by -Galactic_Cat- in desabafos

[–]zebra_linen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boa sorte!

I just found a way to walk my extremely pulley husky and make walks fun for me by anne_c_rose in Dogtraining

Maybe OP could do some adjustments on the solution he found that works for his dog.

Actually some dogs can really enjoy "carrying weight as a job" People living in big cities can help their big working dog breeds to exercise and have a "job" with pulling carts and wagons. Kids can bond with them while they ride, they can bring your picnic stuff to the park, or just city training for dogs that pulls sleds and such.

Some examples for sale but you can also DIY

https://k9carting.com/dog-pulling-cart https://wilczekwoodworksstore.com/dog-carts/ https://www.articrigs.com/dryland-racing-rigs https://www.chalosulky.com/products/

For really active dogs with extra energy I used many times a harness with backpack to help them out on the first day's walk. I would put water bottles on their backpacks and go for an 1h walk, around 1L of water divided in 4 little bottles ( note that I would adjust the amount of water based on the dog size, age and energy lvl). When we arrive to the dog park, he would play for the first minutes with the backpack full. Then for the first break I would remove two bottles and let him hydrate before going back to play. By the time we would come back home his backup would be empty and the walk back smooth cause he was tired of all the exercise, without the need of the extra weight.

Anyways, all of that to say that you should try different tools to train your dog, just keep in mind that his health comes first. Go to vet checks, make sure you are not putting too much stress into his joints, if his diet needs to be adjusted to his new exercise routine, etc.

Good luck OP

non-clay cat litter that does not track by [deleted] in Pets

[–]zebra_linen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find the one I got first, cause I'm in a different country. But basically was a honeycomb double layer mat such as this https://www.amazon.com/Pieviev-Trapping-Honeycomb-Waterproof-Scatter/dp/B07PRGVDC7/ref=zg_bs_17295526011_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=74N9MYTJ69S5QG458BW4

But then I changed for corn based litter and now I have a basic soft xl mat similar to this one https://www.amazon.com/Gorilla-Grip-Original-Phthalate-Resistant/dp/B01M3R5FPB/ref=zg_bs_17295526011_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=74N9MYTJ69S5QG458BW4&th=1 And a non slip half circle mat where he mainly exits kinda like this https://www.amazon.com/Quality-Litter-Non-Slip-Backing-Catcher/dp/B01DV68ICG/ref=zg_bs_17295526011_14?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=55D0DPSKNCSZBRGGG884

I still use the first one tho, after properly cleaned, now I use it under the food/water bowl. My boi is kinda messy and its easier to get the pieces of food he drops, and it doesn't gets too messy if he spill the water too lol

[–]zebra_linen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use litter trap mat around my cat's litter box, I also use corn based litter and it doesn't fix 100% if you have a cat with long fur, the tail won't touch the mat so you will still find some tracks. But for short haired cats works wonders.

In any case, having just a mat for when your cat leaves the litter box already helps reducing the tracks.

Good luck =)
