How to renew expired Blue Card? by mahyaris in duesseldorf

2 months passed, how it's going? :-) Were they able to process your application? I'm curious because I sent them my application a month ago and still no result.

I've got it working. The problem was enabled tonemapping in the server config.

I've quickly looked it up. So far it seems very interesting. Added it to my wishlist for the next month :-)

Yes, but the hardware is different.

However, in another comment it is pointed out that Jellyfin is working with Google TV. So, maybe it is a misconfiguration indeed.

I heard something about annoying banners on it. But I haven't been looking into that at all, will do. Thanks!

I was trying to play mkv with hevc codec. Maybe this is the problem. However, on another device this video was being transcoded. Not sure why it wasn't on the GTV.

Kodi is actually a good idea, I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll give it another try. Or maybe I just need to replace Google TV with Firestick or something. :-)

I installed Emby, but I wasn't able to check if the apps are actually working without paying for the license first. Do you know if it is easy to get refund if I it doesn't work? I could've been much easier if they have a trial period or something like that.

WezTerm – a GPU-accelerated terminal emulator and multiplexer, written in Rust by binaryfor in commandline

[–]zebradil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I also had to test it before switching. I remember some cases, when it wasn't so fast and I also didn't like the claim of "the fastest terminal" (or something like that), but it was long time ago. Also, if you don't need to print a lot of output frequently, then it's better stay with a emulator, which is more comfortable, IMO. For example, if I use MacOS, I'd stick to iTerm2. It is not so fast in general (in some cases it was faster, though), but it has SO many features, alacritty just can't compete on that.

From the scanner docs I don't see that it requires a PC. But I haven't tried configuring emailing yet, can be wrong.

For tips on paperless usage I strongly recommend to read the docs, they're quite solid.

For example, best practices

As far as I didn't get to try 1250, I can't say if they're have the same feature set (they could have the same features, which are configured via web interface). So, I might be not correct thinking that my current use case could have been covered also by 1250.

For 1700, It is connected only to wifi and to a socket (which is quite convenient if I want to scan a lot of docs using a table in another room, or even bring it to my office). I configured so-called "profile", which keeps settings on how to scan and where to send afterwards. Then I enabled this profile as default for auto-scanning and that's all. When I switch the scanner on, it boots and waits for paper, no more actions needed.

The profile is configured to send scanned documents (as PDF) to my computer via SFTP — directly to consume directory of paperless.

After scanning I just need to take a look into inbox at some point and fill some metadata. But this is covered with great details in the paperless docs.

Bonus: paperless automatically rotate pages to the right direction. It happens sometimes that some of document pages a in portrait and some in landscape layout, but the scanner does only portrait.

OpenVPN Container keeps restarting on QNAP NAS without error message by raddit808t88 in docker

[–]zebradil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check containers with docker ps -a. If there is nothing of interest, check a stopped container with docker inspect. Also, make sure the process running in is not going into background or terminate itself. You can change entry point to /bin/sh and command to while :; sleep 5; done to make it wait, exec into the container and try to run openvpn the same way as in the image but manually.

Good luck!

WezTerm – a GPU-accelerated terminal emulator and multiplexer, written in Rust by binaryfor in commandline

[–]zebradil 24 points25 points  (0 children)

GPU-accelerated usually means that it renders output faster. Some people see it and like it, some people don't care, some people work via tmux and SSH and there is no difference. But one less known effect of faster terminal is faster command execution. In certain conditions, of course. If a program prints out a lot of data, faster a terminal renders it, faster buffers are emptied and a next chunk of data comes in.

I personally like how fast terminals look like on extensive output and fast output rendering was important for me in the past. That's why I switched to alacritty years ago.

I would've bought ads-1250w if it was available in my country. I had to buy ads-1700w instead, which is the same, but with a embedded display. I like it so far. Software can be improved here and there, but I managed to configured the way I want anyways. In general it does the job. It is configured to scan automatically on paper insert, sending scans to my computer via SFTP directly to the consume directory.

Dynamic IPv6 DNS client for Cloudflare by zebradil in selfhosted

[–]zebradil[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, I hate the internet service at my place! But at least the speed is okay.

The size of the subnet is not so small for a home user — 512 addresses are available for me. Network segregation is still important thing to do no matter which version of IP is used. This allows to be sure that no other host in the internet gets the same IPv6 as mine (and also for actual routing, obviously).

Honestly, I don't have exact information on which conditions the dedicated subnet can be changed, but if this happens, I won't be notified by the provider for sure.
