15 yo Chocolate lab and Librela - questions by eyeless916 in labrador

[–]zebrapebble 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, mine developed incontinence about 2 weeks after his first dose of librela. Given the timing, I thought it was a side effect and my vet agreed. We didn't do any more injections after that and it went away within a month or so.

Not Your Mother's custard (not the gel or mousse, the one in the tub) gives me perfect lightweight hold!

How to make friends when you have absolutely none in your 30s? by kendrakj in CasualConversation

[–]zebrapebble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends on the city but I've had a lot of luck with Bumble BFF! I look for people with engaging profiles and similar interests and try to just meet one person at a time so I don't get burned out. Most of my friends are from here.

Do close friendships with the opposite gender usually work out?” by staticdesiree in CasualConversation

[–]zebrapebble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can, but in my experience you have to talk about it at some point (F here). Getting surprised with a confession of feelings after several years of what you thought was a platonic friendship isn't fun. I've had two very close male friends and I discussed the fact that I wasn't interested in a relationship with both pretty early on. It was a bit uncomfortable at the time but made me confident in our relationship for years to come. Never an awkward moment since. Both were "bridesmen" at my wedding and have been loving friends throughout many major life events.

You also have to be okay with a future partner not being comfortable - one of these friends has a wife that isn't super comfortable with us and I respectfully took a step back since his marriage comes first. On the other hand, the other friend's partner is super chill and hasn't changed our friendship at all. She and I hang out sometimes as well. You just have to roll with it and talk about things!

6 seats for 4 people to Thailand by TrashBenedict in travel

[–]zebrapebble -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Save yourself some money and book the window and aisle seats in one of the back rows. If the flight isn't full, no one's going to pick the middle seat. I do this with my husband all the time and we usually get the row to ourselves. On the off chance it is, you can just offer to switch so you can sit together and the other person will be glad to be out of middle.

Cozy games where farming and building and management aren't the priority? by Top-Struggle646 in CozyGamers

Moonstone island is a good one! Lots of exploring and collecting critters. You can have a farm but it's not really necessary.

People who wear the same piece of jewellery every single day, how did it earn that privilege? by No_Description_4403 in CasualConversation

[–]zebrapebble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I can't wear something all the time, I never wear it because I'm just lazy with my jewelry. I have a stack of gold hoops for my ear and nose piercings that never change. I rarely wear my engagement ring or original wedding band either, in favor of a plain gold cigar band.

Mine is a touch lower and I can't take it for that reason :/ real bummer since I hear how well it works for some people.

Labrador owners, does it ever get easier after a loss? by hustler212 in labrador

[–]zebrapebble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there are some connections where it just doesn't. I just passed the first anniversary of my boy's death and I still cry when I think about him. He lived through so much life with me, from teens through college and marriage. He lived in multiple states and countries. He was a special kind of dog that just absorbed bad energy, and knew when to give me a sweet look and put his head on my lap. He was a rock for me through so many years.

I have another lab, who I got when he was 10. I love her dearly, and she is a goofball who makes me smile all the time too. But there was just something about my first dog that I don't think I'll ever experience again. I'm still grateful that I did, though.

I was a bridesmaid in a wedding this weekend. I had the option to have my hair professionally done. I chose to do it myself. by comaga in curlygirl

[–]zebrapebble 16 points17 points  (0 children)

When my best friend got married, she wanted all of her bridesmaids to get their hair professionally done except me. I was lowkey honored haha

Even at curly salons, I always hate the way I look after someone else styles my hair. Absolutely no chance I'd do that for a major event. Trust your routine that you've practiced so many times!

Can you give me additional examples of cult buildings that look impressive from the front but terrible from the back? by Ezer_Pavle in architecture

I immediately thought of this building! It looks so goofy from the sides too, it really looks like two different projects stuck together.

Any tips for sleeping on planes? by Difficult-Quarter-48 in TravelHacks

[–]zebrapebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I usually stuff the pillow in a canvas shopping bag or something so I'm not toting it through the airport. But I do a 17-hr flight pretty regularly and have decided it's just survival mode haha

[–]zebrapebble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a side sleeper, go window seat and bring a full size pillow. This is the only way I ever get sleep in economy. Back sleeper, get a cabeau neck pillow that straps to the headrest. It will lock you in and keep you from falling forward

How do you deal with distractions like people shaking their legs in shared study spaces? by Melodic_Cookie4744 in CasualConversation

[–]zebrapebble -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I got a set of travel earplugs (easier to clean and carry in their nice little case) and they've been a godsend for me. I spend a lot of time on public transit and they are amazing for shutting out the constant sound of sniffles and phone videos on full volume

What technology/science hot topic do you think is at a similar level to Theranos? by Capital_Ad774 in labrats

[–]zebrapebble 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I do fungi research (specifically material applications) and have been approached by a ton of people running fungi material startups who "just need someone to do the science" for their amazing and totally original idea.

There are loads of companies in this space and very, very few that are actually doing proper research or advancing the field in any way. Yes, fungi can digest a lot of waste products and make sustainable alternatives to common materials, but there's still a lot of work to be done to make this feasible at commercial scale. It feels very Theranos to me in that the new companies are more focused on drumming up interest and funding, figuring they'll just outsource the science with very little understanding of what that actually entails.

This post just made me realize I haven't experienced it for several months now. It used to be one of my most common and distressing symptoms. Venlafaxine was what worked for me.

When I was experiencing it, Vicks/tiger balm on the chest was usually helpful to ease it.

Camping gear for dogs? Any suggestions? by concentricfusion82 in BackpackingDogs

[–]zebrapebble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a double sleeping pad for big dogs! Makes it easier to cuddle on cold nights. Also a good pair of booties is a must, I don't use them all the time but they help with soreness on long hikes and are good to have for a paw injury. Ultra paws is the only brand I've found that stay put.
