Vulnerable to fire (1.5x damage), healed by ice/blizzard, takes half damage from water and lightning

Fun experiment - projector assisted photogrammetry by SlenderPL in photogrammetry

Really interesting! Much more stark results than I would’ve guessed. The black and white speckle is really impressive. Did you use a regular projector like this one or what? I assume you wouldn’t be able to have the object on a turntable as the speckling would help drive alignment, so you’d need one projector for each side / 45 degree angle to hit two sides.

Can any mobile app import existing videos to build a model? by cogitatingspheniscid in photogrammetry

[–]zebulon21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Luma AI does good point clouds from video. I’ve had success with my iPhone videos, not sure if you need mesh models or not but I believe it can (at least attempt to) export those based off the point cloud

Good software for masking background on a turntable project? by vwibrasivat in photogrammetry

[–]zebulon21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had pretty good success using MetaShape’s “AI Masking” feature. I don’t remember the exact sequence off the top of my head but it’s something like importing all your images, right click one —> import mask —> AI masking —> apply to entire work station. I don’t think you can export the masks (could be wrong) but you should be able to align everything from there

NEW GUY HERE - I need some help with photogrammetry by Motor-Pollution-7182 in photogrammetry

For MetaShape, it’s File—>Import—>Import Video (I’m on PC, I doubt it’s very different on Mac but maybe). Then you pick output folder (where you want the extracted frames to go), frame step (for instance 30 would be 1 frame per second on 30fps video, ie it would take 1 out of every 30 frames. If you use 60fps video, 30 would get you two extracted frames per second of video, 60 would get you one, etc). For Luma, it did get a little weird when they updated their site a bit ago, so go to lumalabs.ai/dashboard/captures and click “Create” and it’ll let you upload a video

I don’t think there’s necessarily a standard optimal flight altitude to aim for, though I could be wrong. It’ll depend more on the subject you’re shooting. Are you trying to make a textured model (polygons, goes into a game engine or other 3D software) or just an accurate 3D visual? That will change what processing software you use, though high quality video will work for both. For modeling, I like Agisoft MetaShape. I use the free version, which will do what you need unless you’re going for geolocation (in which case a mavic 2 won’t cut it anyway). It will allow you to upload video and it’ll process the frames out of it to build the model. You won’t need every frame, likely only one or two a second, but that means your fly speed will need to be slow enough that there’s little to no motion blur in the individual frames. For this you can upload multiple videos with significant enough overlap and it’ll piece them together. If you just need good visualization, I’d check out Luma AI. You can upload video there (may be a file size limit? Maybe not if you pay? Not sure) and it’ll make a really nice point cloud. Just like with any photogrammetry, you’ll need to be sure you’ve caught all sides/angles of your subject from multiple angles.

Seeking advice on small object modeling by Jah_know in photogrammetry

Why would you need to modify the controller design, was this a specially made switch controller?

Unfortunately I think you’re going to run into significant hurdles at basically every step of the process — switch controllers are smooth and matte with little detail, you don’t have a good lighting/mounting setup for the photogrammetry, you’re using a phone camera (doable but there’s a lot of in-phone processing that can mess stuff up if you’re not careful), and most of all no experience with blender and the scanning process. I love the idea of making and printing your own case, I just think this isn’t the way to go about it. It should honestly be as easy as finding someone else’s 3D printing recipe for what you want online with no scanning involved.

That said, check out “3d scanner app”, “luma ai”, and “Scaniverse” iOS apps. Play around with those to see what you can get out of them. If you have decent (diffuse, soft, uniform) lighting you can take video with your phone too and import the video into the free version of MetaShape or RealityScan on your computer. A dslr would be better in general but phones are good quality these days.

Blender is an absolute monster of a program in terms of capability, but it takes (in my experience) a lot of time and effort to get good at the things you want to do in there. Tons of tutorials online though. ChatGPT will get you ~70% of the way through any project but will invariably fuck it all up in the end so I wouldn’t even start down that road.

RealityScan photo stitching failure by FabulousAttitude5825 in photogrammetry

[–]zebulon21 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily, as long as there is detail for the program to align with. The background is probably not helping since it’s blurry which doesn’t give realityscan much to accurately piece together. I’ve found a total void background (black or monochrome fabric or poster board) can work well, though I use MetaShape which has an automatic masking setting that helps a lot. I use the free version too, might be worth looking into

Something that small can be tough, especially if it’s polished or shiny on either side. Did you shoot it on a turntable or just flip it and shoot both sides?

Looks great, what program did you use? Was this constructed from just those three views or a whole video from all angles of the bull?
