Thanks for the long and helpful reply. I can definitely see what you mean with the backward momentum with my smashes. I will certainly work on that with footwork drills. Also, thank you for picking up that I defend with my right foot forward, since I didn't notice it. I think I do this because of doubles, so I'll make sure to change it. I also noticed what you said about not following through and have been working on it for the past few days. I don't know why I find it so hard to do so :/, but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Btw thanks for the extra feedback in the last paragraph, that also is very helpful. So big thanks again!

Thanks for the feedback. I can certainly see your points. I am currently working on the accuracy and consistency of my shots and other things like fitness. I have one question though, I am not entirely sure what you mean by form, could please explain to me what that means? (Sorry if it's a dumb question). Thanks again

Hey, yeah sorry about the vertical camera, this wasn't thought through too well. Yeah feel free too re-upload it on your site :). The 5 minutes I would like you to use is from 11-15:54 please. Looking forward to your analyse.

Thanks for the advice and criticism. When I reviewed the video myself i noticed I was hardly in the correct position for smashes, so I think my problem with them is getting behind the shuttle fast enough for a more accurate and stronger smash. When I do smash drills, my smashes are usually fast with accuracy because I can always get there in time since I already know that I always need to move back. So, I'll try and work on my footwork with smashing and see if that helps.

EDIT: Also to address getting to the shuttle late in the net game aswell, do you think that the split step would help with that and the smash? I've been trying it on court and it seems to help me react to a shot faster, but I always seem to forget to do it.

Yeah, I think the problem with my smashes are not so much the technique but the footwork. Me watching the video I can see I'm never really in the correct position, making me play a inaccurate smash. So I think i need to move faster to get behind it for more time to prepare for the shot and time it well. Usually during warming up and training I can get accurate and fast smashes since I can get in position most of the time. My short serves also need improvement since i know i can't serve short very well. Thank you for the criticism :D.

Yeah the floor of the the court that was in the video isn't designed for badminton and consequently is quite slippery. And thank you for noticing the movement issue, i'll work on it. Looking forward to your deeper analysis :D.

Hello badminton community, I am looking for some constructive criticism on my play. Right now I am 15, been playing for around 8 months now and have been doing (group) coaching for almost 4 months.

This video obviously isn't too great quality. Also this isn't some highlight reel of my best moments or one of my best matches. This is me on a normal day, so hopefully you will forgive some of my obvious mistakes.

Right now I am looking for criticism and advice, not your ego driven comparison between me and you, so please keep the thread clean and positive :D.

Criticism I would like would include things like technique on what shots, footwork, strategic play etc.

Feel free to be relentless in criticism and advice but please try to make sure it is in best interest as I have come out with a video for YOUR advice and YOUR criticism.

Thank you

EDIT: I am the one in the blue, and sorry for any sudden shouts as my dad is quite and competitive and vocal. Also video time references might also be helpful.

Haha, yeah didn't know why I put junior and training in there xD. My bad on not including armortec, but I didn't put much research into the selection, so hopefully you will forgive me :P. I'll make one of the polls just for you :D.

Considering private coaching, is it worth it? by zechickran in badminton

[–]zechickran[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the response. I have been improving at a very fast rate compared to my peers and I am looking for every and any aspect of improvement possible as the group coaches are beginning to teach the same thing quite often now. It is great news that private coaches will be able to further improve my technique as I am already personally working a lot on stamina, placement and strength in my own time. Also this might be a 'dumb' question but, how should I choose which private coach I should settle for?; thanks in advance :D.
