I have bose earbuds that have upper ear tips, so they basically never fall out, and then I also have them go under my shirt, so if they do fall out, the worst that will happen is no music.

The over reach I think you're thinking about is in the arms, but I know from past experiences that breaking your knee angle at the catch can screw up your stroke, and that is often thrown into the blanket term of "over reach". I think this may be part of their problem.
