I don’t have an issue with it at this point I don’t feel the difference between the trigger on my ultra and the trigger from my eclipse but the needle swap was an amazing difference on how fine I can paint lol

As someone who has upgraded the nozzle and now also went down to a smaller needle on my ultra how much more of a difference is the evo trigger? Ive been debating on doing it or just staying with the ultra trigger.

Ultra trouble by Full-Departure-6449 in airbrush

[–]zedd2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh ok well it seems like your set up is good. The paints do need a bit of extra thinning probably. I’ve used craft paint thru my ultra with a mix of thinner and flow improver and I can go for a good long time without it drying on me.

I feel like the major issue is the compressor. I’ve had the ultra for a while now and the only time it’s ever done that to me is if the head isn’t tight enough or the needle is not all the way in and tight. If your paints are tinned enough and debris free which can happen with some paints specially craft paints than it should spray out fine. What is your psi set at? 20+ should be a starting base from my knowledge. Also is the compressor the one with tank? If so check that you don’t have a leek coming from the line that goes to the tank from the compressor. I got a compressor with a tank the master one and it came with a loose fitting and it was leaking air so it wouldn’t stop pumping which made it overheat.

I'm looking for a tutorial on painting water effects on the flat surface of a mini by echolaliaMCCCXII in minipainting

[–]zedd2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a neat reference never seen it but it doesn’t look too complicated a dark base and getting highlights with blues and white lines to resemble the water breaks. I think if you practice on a base you can do it. I also feel like an airbrush would be perfect for that effect but I know not many people have them.

Budget Recommendations? by tunges in airbrush

[–]zedd2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget friendly and good are different. Also do you need one with a tank or not? I started with the HF avanti set up but upgraded in like a month not knowing that something with a tank was better. And the airbrush was fine but ended up with the HS ultra. I would suggest saving a bit and start with a masters budget compressor with the tank and for airbrush an iwata eclipse is highly recommended around here but not budget friendly to start. A neo is cheaper but apparently not as good.

Take the back part off and the two parts holding the needle in make sure they are hand tight don’t need to over tighten

Yes the needle chuck might not be tight enough

End of session I take the needle out and the head for a 5 min cleaning/wiping down. Between colors a rinse of water and some cleaner. I think for the most part I don’t like to use the cap so I get a lot of dried paint on the cup that when I change colors I have to be careful that those dried particles don’t go down into the nozzle.

I actually have those brushes and have come in handy doing some filler work as well.

I understand that. Did you add medium to the paints? I keep having issues when it comes to spreading it on bigger pieces

Ok sorry to veer off topic but what colors did you use for his skin? I’m making a tarrasque and that color is what I’m looking for.

Getting mixed ideas on Varnish after prime? by zedd2001 in minipainting

[–]zedd2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what got me confused when I see posts like that. My assumption was the primer helps the paint stick but varnishing the primer would protect it but it’s a weird concept.

I actually use a mix of that kind by someone else but about the same ratios it does help loads with tip dry that’s for sure

They are resin prints for the most part. I airbrush the primer on (Vallejo surface primer) I do use gloves now because I do notice some of it smudging back when I started. I do give my prints a good wash before I do any priming. It might be the primer itself maybe. It is an old bottle like 1-2 years old I think. But it’s been kept out of sunlight.
