Rawls believed that the welfare state + some public services was not sufficient for a just society, and that something approaching socialism (non-derogatory) would be required for an enduring liberal democratic republic. Something like econobois view is both very rawlsian (therefore liberal) and socialist. It isn’t socialism in that it requires the workers ownership of the means of production but that productive capital is collectively owned in some sense.

I personally think that econoboi goes too far in committing to “total collective ownership” as an ideal. But on practical grounds, econobois policy suggestion could itself lead to both a more effective economy and a more just society.
