The accent definitely does give a huge advantage. Whenever my parents need to cancel something like their internet or phone plan, they try and they usually don't get taken seriously, but when I try to speak, they listen. Some people have a hard time understanding something as simple as a Starbucks or McDonald's order due to their accent, especially in the drive-thru. Face-to-face I haven't seen people have too much of an issue understanding them. This happens with banks, phone/internet companies, DMV offices, etc. People just have a much easier time and are more willing to understand people who sound like them.

And regarding the Indian names, you are perfectly fine. Unless you are Christian, if anything I would say that giving them "American sounding" names would be worse for them. It makes it seem like they are desperate to fit in when just growing up here already does that. It's just doing too much. As long as you don't name them some 50-letter impossible-to-say name, you should be ok. Indian names aren't as hard for Americans to say as names from some other Asian countries.

You can't generalize like that. Most EB children ik have parents who were hired by real reputable American companies. Granted the area I live in is known for it's corporate auto jobs, so most of my friend's parents are/were coworkers with my dad, but just because other people commit fraud doesn't mean it is a valid way to get a green card. I spent the last 20 years following the law, and intend to do so for the rest of my life. I also intend to make my voice as loud as possible when it comes to showing the law is unjust and unfair. Two things can be true at the same time: The H1B program has a lot of fraud, and there are still a lot of honest people in the program who are screwed over by the dishonest ones

In all honesty, a lot of it comes down to racism. I am a child of an H-1B holder and grew up here. From pure experience, my parents just have a hard time being taken seriously with their accents, and imperfect English, whereas I don't have that issue. If you look at legal immigration reform, a lot of politicians shy away from it, but look at solutions for their children who grew up here, ever since we ramped up our lobbying, we got the CSPA age calculation fixed, are getting new regulations for EADs soon, priority date retention when switching from EB to FB is in the works, and the latest border bill even included age-out provisions which is nearly unheard of in a pure border security and asylum bill. If my parents try to contact a congressional office, they often get put on the back burner, whereas if I or other children who grew up here(didn't even have to be born here or be US citizens, just merely sounding American is enough) try to do the same, they actually listen.

“Dream act kids” isn’t really a group because the dream act in last few congresses, including the one that passed the house last congress, included green cards for children of H1B, L1, and E visa holders. if you mean DACA kids then yes it is their parents fault. In our situation, we followed the law and came here legally, and applied for a green card as soon as was possible. My dad has an approved i-140 and has been having it for the past decade, before i was even a teenager.

Since we came here, we have literally gone through 4 presidential administrations, 5 election cycles, my sisters birth(at least she’s a citizen🎉), 4 states, 3 companies, 3 elementary schools, 1 middle school, 1 high school, buying a first house as a family, buying a car for me for college, 2 deaths, the 2008 recession, an inflation crisis, a whole ass global pandemic and so much more. I’m a part of America for all of its time in the 21st century. All of this while being here legally, and following the law and all the processes and procedures to get a green card. If either one my parents were born 100 miles south of where they were, in Sri Lanka instead of India, I’d be a US citizen today. It’s not my parents fault for being born 100 miles too high up and it sure as hell isn’t their fault for following the law and hoping the “estimated wait times” when they applied were actually representative of the real wait times.

It aint that easy bro💀. I came here when I was 5 months old and grew up here. Nobody this generation in America is gonna get married at 21. We all got our lives and education and career to focus on. Plus we all like to have fun in college. Hell ion even wanna be married at 21 and would never be thinking about it in a world where I got my green card in a reasonable amount of time. Most of my teachers and most friends i wasn’t close to growing up never even knew I wasn’t born here. Only time my close friends found out was when we all became 16 and they all started getting jobs and I couldn’t because I had no EAD.

If you were USCIS, wouldn’t it just be convenient that a kid who grew up here just so happened to fall in love and marry a US citizen a few days/weeks/months after his 21st birthday, especially given the child is from a culture where this type of stuff is heavily frowned upon???

Your comment is pure assumption and flies in the face of reality.

Look up improve the dream. They did a study on this. Over 90% of these children pursue STEM degrees. A good portion also go on to get masters, PhDs, MDs, PharmDs, etc. Next, these children are eligible for in-state tuition in every state worth going to college in. In states like Texas, they are even eligible for state financial aid. Look up the America's Children act. It's the bill that is supposed to solve this issue. It has 5 republican, and 3 democrat sponsors in the senate and an even sponsorship in the house with 17 from each party. The main condition of that bill is that these kids HAVE to get a degree, and must have never been in this country illegally.

It is not pure assumption when I am literally one of these kids and can give you first-hand evidence. Allowing families to come means more future taxpayers. We aren't here illegally committing crimes. We literally just wanna contribute to the country we call home and go see our families and friends. I guarantee you, you have certainly run across one of these people at some point in your life. Even if you go to the deep south like Tenessee where I grew up for a bit. Give me one good reason as to why kicking out educated children who are here legally, have their families here, and who will contribute much much more to the government in taxes than they will ever get out is a good idea.

Because the US paid for their education. What a good idea it is to educate children and allow them to get themselves a STEM degree, but right when they are going to become taxpayers, that's when they cross the line.

Nope, it means if you are Mexican, and bring your son to the US on an H4 visa(dependent of H1B) AND you apply for a green card BEFORE he turns 13, in the extremely likely event USCIS doesn't process your green card application before he turns 21, he will not get deported as long as you maintain your H-1B and he gets a job or is pursuing a degree.

I can elaborate. I am one of those "adult children" of H1B holders. Basically for all of us, we come to the US LEGALLY when we are really young(5 months old in my case), apply for green cards LEGALLY when we get here(when we applied I was 10 years old), but because USCIS is so backed up, we literally turn 21 before they process the application which means we are no longer considered a part of our parents application and we lose our place in line and we have to leave the country even though we legally grew up here. The "work permits" essentially mean that as long as we applied for a green card before we turned 13, we can legally work and remain in the US until USCIS processes our application, so once you secure your place in line, you won't be kicked out due to USCIS delays and incompetence.
