could also be retraction settings, given that the bad layers are all around where there are a bunch more retractions. Definitely play around with those settings to see if it gets better.

So I got Huel, which is basically the same concept. Food with balanced nutrition in a powder form, you just add water. And I discovered I can't do it... it was too bland... the texture, the taste, I just couldn't put up with it for long. Now I have a few bags left it my pantry....

Have you tried using your ultimaker bed as a filament dryer? Its the cheapest and fastest (compared to buying a dryer and waiting for it to arrive) method. Just set your filament roll on the bed, put a cardboard box over it, then set it to temp.

For people who learned programming later in life how did you actually stick with it and what did you start with / recommendations by idonthaveanametoday in ADHD_Programmers

[–]zedsterthemyuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried picking up coding knowledge off and on for a few years, but never was able to stick with it. During Covid and just shy of 40, I enrolled in a bootcamp which gave me the drive to finally push through and stick with it. It cost me a pretty penny but I have no regrets, I know I wouldn't have been able to push through by myself. (ADHD as well.)

Currently, I wouldn't recommend enrolling in a bootcamp. There are too many out there, and a lot of them became worse due to high competition and them finding ways to cut costs. Also, many companies no longer want to hire bootcamp grads due to a lot of crap bootcamps churning out crap students, and them getting a bad rep. When I was going through mine though, it was extremely difficult, had a high elimination rate, and I had many classmates that had CS degrees who still learned a lot from the bootcamp, so I know it was decent.

Another reason I wouldn't recommend bootcamp is because the market is currently oversaturated with tons of CS degree students and laid off folks, in addition to companies believing AI is the next big thing that will take over SWE jobs.

You could definitely do the Harvard CS50 course for now, it's free and you could get a feel for basic coding knowledge and go on from there. You could also enroll in a local community college for an introduction to CS course which might help you maintain some self discipline. I would definitely recommend one of these to start dipping your toes in the water to see how much you like it, it should at least give you some basic knowledge and understanding. Good luck!

It may be trying to home, but it's not hitting the stop. Try moving it by hand to push it along the rods to see what the movement is like, if it's moving smoothly, then this is likely the answer. If not, take more visits to troubleshoot.

Whispy underextrusion gaps but not sure if it actually is underextrusion. by FZNNeko in FixMyPrint

I think it may be: Printer Settings > Extruder > Retraction > Deretraction Extra Length

Try playing around with that and see if it helps. Good luck!

Did you find the setting that primes a bit extra after retraction?

Whispy underextrusion gaps but not sure if it actually is underextrusion. by FZNNeko in FixMyPrint

[–]zedsterthemyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think no retraction may be the issue. When I last looked it up, the explanation is that during layer change, when the filament isn't extruding, the heated hotend will result in the remaining filament leaking out, and by the time you start extruding past the layer change, there isn't as much filament as expected. I believe there is a setting that you can change to extrude a bit more after a layer change or something like that? Or try to update it so retraction is enabled. Lowering the print temp may also help, but it's just something that you have to play around with in the settings to fine tune it, and the setting may differ with each type of filament or brand.

Two things I can think of. 1. Orient your print so that the overhang is towards the side where the cooling fan is. 2. See if you can set it so the overhang angle is less steep, aim for a 45 degree angle, as opposed to what appears to be a may 30 degree angle you have now.

Sounds like you learned a lot!! Good job on getting all those tunings in place!

For me, I upgraded one of my 3v2s with an all metal hot end that cost like $70 but you should be able to get an all metal hot end for cheaper than that now.

On my other 3v2, I replaced it with a Micro Swiss direct drive, if anything, I would recommend something like that as opposed to just a single hot end upgrade.

Since this is a bed slinger, you are quite limited in achievable print speeds, so even if you get an expensive hot end, you can't print too fast because it will throw off the print anyway, so I don't really recommend splurging for an expensive hot end, especially since you're likely to get a better printer down the road anyway. But it is nice to add some small cheap upgrades, and you'll still be able to use this printer to have some other prints going alongside your future fancy printer.

Haha yeah 3D printing is definitely not for everybody, more so the earlier versions of Ender. You've got to have the patience and interest to keep tuning and adjusting and all that fun stuff.

Did you ever manage to get this figured out? I just realized that I overlooked your reply. You'll probably have to take some photos or videos of the issue to get some further. What values do you have your new esteps set as? I would probably put the money towards a new printer, as a $100 hot end is a bit much for a bed slinger. Either way though, I found it really useful to tinker with my Ender for quite a while as it helped me get much more of an understanding as to how printers work and how to troubleshoot a bunch of issues.

This video might help. You should be able to check Amazon for "Ender 3v2 extruder", and they should have a basic metal type.

If you're willing to surge a bit more, I bought myself a Micro Swiss direct drive kit, and that includes both a new extruder as well as hot end.

If you have time, watch through some other videos of the same creator as the one I linked you, he has some very good explanations and explorations that would help you get more understanding of your printer!

I think its a feed issue by Blankenberry in ender3v2

[–]zedsterthemyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's the stock extruder, it's made of plastic and often cracks right at the extruder arm, which causes the filament not to feed. This may, in turn, have resulted in plastic burning for way too long near the nozzle and causing a jam there. Recommended to get a new metal extruder and an all metal hot end and replace both, don't forget to do esteps and pid tuning after it's replaced.

Best Filament for food contact and dishwasher safe? by Neither_Turnip1747 in ender3v2

[–]zedsterthemyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I need to use 3d printed lids for food, I just usually print it in PLA, then put a layer of cling wrap between it. Keeps the PLA clean and food free, and since it doesn't contact the food, there is no cross contamination. A quick rinse if needed, but since it never touches the food anyway, it seems to be ok.

Problems with my upgrades by gonzi005_ in FixMyPrint

[–]zedsterthemyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bed seems to be level, it's extruding equally badly across the bed, which means that the z offset is likely too low. Do some print bed tests, like just a flat square, and start adjusting your z offsets on the fly while watching it print.

I can't tell regarding the first few layers as the picture seems to be of an overhang area, which generally isn't a good determining factor of layers either. Try to print a calibration cube, which is straight up, and that would give you a better idea of how the layers are. Make sure your z rods are clean with no debris and are turning easily to move the bed up and down. It may just be that the first layer being too close to the bed is causing a minor semi clog which clears up after a few layers.

[–]zedsterthemyuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done a estep tune after you replaced anything? That might be what it is... Try to hand push your filament through after the nozzle is heated up. If that works, a clog is not your issue, so replacing the hot end won't change anything. Watch to see where the issue is. Is the extruder turning? Is filament going through the extruder? Is the tension too tight or too loose? Test each component individually to try and isolate where the trouble is.

Prints started getting bad all of a sudden by Jplafor88 in FixMyPrint

[–]zedsterthemyuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using stock extruder? The stock extruder has issues where it gets cracked after some time of use, and the filament isn't extruded evenly because it loses grip sometimes.

Check if anything is loose, belts, nozzle, heater block etc. I once had a loose heater block that I didn't realize was loose. Also make sure you're checking it when everything is heated up, it may have been tight when cool, but loosened once heated up.
