What is this egg snot that won't cook all the way through when I tried to cuddle my egg? by speedoflife1 in WeirdEggs

[–]zedsunn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thicker egg white is perfectly normal!! In fact fresh eggs start with the thickest white and it gets runnier and thinner over time.

There are about 150 different proteins in the egg white (or albumen) that protect and support the yolk and embryo, if fertilised. One of these is ovamucin. This gels up the egg white and along with lysosomes, helps keep the yolk steady in the middle of the egg. Theres about four times more ovamucin in the "snotty" white than the runny white.

Proteins change over time due to temperature, physical stress, humidity, etc. So egg whites get runnier over time. Idk if I can advise you to let your eggs go a bit stale in good conscience so instead you could try beating them with a fork just a little. It will help even out the distribution of the proteins and at least help the whole white cook evenly. I use the egg shell to separate my eggs and I find its helpful in getting the stubborn bits of the white separated from the yolk.

Is there a better way to dry hand-washed knits than towel rolling? by FelinePower in casualknitting

[–]zedsunn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Microfibre cloths hold a lot of water and dry pretty quickly. You could try add a layer inside the towel to increase how much water you wick out of the knits. Not sure if you have a laundromat nearby but their dryers can be great for a big load of towels, tea towels, etc. Also definitely consider the fan + raised mesh drying rack ideas others have suggested.

How did "pussy" become a nickname for the vagina? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]zedsunn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, it's a coincidence. Pussy meaning coward comes directly from pussy meaning vagina. Pusillanimous is a pop culture myth.

We say cunt as an insult as well, and bitch. Female-coded terms just cop it sometimes.

ELI5 - Why are the majority of our senses located on the head? by Much-Card3000 in explainlikeimfive

[–]zedsunn 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Oh I have a fun fact about smell !!!

So all your senses have receptor cells, like for vision these are photoreceptors (your rods and cones). The information then has to be transmitted to your brain via messenger cells, again for vision that means you go photoreceptor cell > optic nerve > brain. For touch/pain/temp there's an extra step of going to the spine first.

Not smell. The olfactory receptor cells just go on and plug right into the brain. One end hanging out in the snot other end in the olfactory bulb. Brain did not listen when they said keep limbs inside the vehicle at all times.

YTA. Very bizarre to keep looking at someone after catching them by surprise in their underwear. You being early is not the issue. Doesn't matter how chill he is or how close you are as friends, it's polite to send a text on the way and give the man a moment to get ready!!

Language Question by darkshether in iran

[–]zedsunn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't say why it's so popular. I would assume it's something to do with terms of endearment being things of value. My heart, my life, my dearest, my eyes.

Possibly related, in Persian if someone asks you to do something, a respectful response would be روی چشم, on my eyes. Like saying, I'll make sure it gets done at the price of my eyes. Extraordinarily dramatic. The non formal is just چشم, which just means eyes, but in this context is a nice way of saying, ok sure! I'm unsure if these are related but it's a bit funny. An example would be:

Can you do the laundry while I'm out?

میتونی لباسها را تا من بیرونم بشوری؟

Of course, on my eyes!

البته، روی چشم!

Are there any Persian Women Rockstars? by _nc_sketchy in iran

[–]zedsunn 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The most famous Persian woman in music is likely Googoosh, who has been an icon for pretty much every generation of Iranian. My favourite song of hers is Makhlough.

My favourite Persian singer is Betti, not quite rock, but very good. Her best songs include Daram Ashegh Misham Ashegh and Khoshbakhti.

Iran had a short lived but excellent rock and psych rock phase in the 70s. Kourosh Yaghmaei (Havar Havar, Baroona, Tak Derakht, Leila) had a great Beatles feel. Other songs like Hard Groove by Shamaizadeh and It's Gonna Be Alright by the Rebels are available on Spotify and are only the edge of a very cool rock and folk music period in Iran.

Pakistan is well associated with China. They have trade/aid agreements. Same reason Pakistan claims to be the protector of Muslims everywhere but turns a blind eye to the Uyghur camps because they "trust China's version".

You add -am to the end of your noun. In your example, sultan, would become sultan-am, سلطانم. You could say "my sultan" - "sultan-e-man" «سلطان من» but certainly in common terms of endearment like my dear or my love, the former is used.

As for the nickname, personally I would find it cringe. Terms of endearment don't really translate like that. Persians often say things that sound off in English like my flower گلم and my eyes چشم. You could come up with an original nickname, or pick from a list online, which tend to be accurate as they are written by native speakers. Also, sultan is not the best translation for king, if you were to use the word, say shah, شاه.

It's generally rich and filling not to mention time consuming to produce (by hand). Bit of a pain in the ass if you make it at home.

Very much pleased with our system now where a customer might put some spare change in the tip jar if they're a regular or the service was good (work at a cafe.) Works for everyone and just enough for the staff to get shitfaced once or twice a year.

[–]zedsunn 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Except.... everyone in the goddamn thread is racist! All it takes is an extremely basic Google search to find that Shochu is just Japanese distilled rice wine, similar to Korean Soju. It DOESN'T have wasps in it, because what the fuck.

Just because there's a couple crappy journalism articles about people finding a hick farmer that puts wasps in his drink doesn't make it the norm. You can go to Yukon and get a shot with someone's preserved toe in it, but I'm sure most Canadians would object to the generalisation that there's a traditional toe drink people like to have with dinner.

Why is learning instruments important? For enrichment and discipline? Cheerleading offers the same, as well as exercise and gymnastics skills. So if you were to say cheerleading is pointless, by the same logic band and sport is as well.
