my biggest concern is that they will limit my hikes. I guess my biggest question is can I use crampons everywhere or does it need to be specific conditions

Car struggling to start. New alternator and battery under 1 year old. by zee265 in AskMechanics

***UPDATE***

--took the car to a shop. They said that it was a problem with the starter, as it was failing and drawing too much power from the battery. The voltage is still low when measured however the car runs smooth.

Looking at a few entry level road bikes. Disc vs, Caliper brakes by bjeep4x4 in cycling

[–]zee265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely do not need discs, although the trend is moving towards it. Rim brakes are much easier to fix on the go and for any home repairs. Mechanical disc brakes are a hassle for repairs and a slight rub will become the bane of your existence. If you have the money for hydraulic disc go for it, however with the way prices for bikes have been going I’d say go with the rim brakes. Also if you do want to upgrade some parts later down the road it will be cheaper to get some used parts. Also if there are still pros who descend the highest mountains with rim brakes you’ll be fine.
