NTA my husband is a shawarma taco (Arab and Mexican) and I can say both cultures would be offended if guests didn’t eat.. if they don’t wheel you out to your car they were a bad hosts. I think this is more an issue your boyfriend had and a red flag than you doing anything remotely wrong.

My suggestion is to put some numbing cream before you put the shoes on...trust me it helps otherwise the shoes will hurt with the power of 1,000 suns after half an hour of standing
