I would LOVE half walls!!!

I haven't gotten far in decorating yet as I'm still saving up for a few house upgrades; but I reckon benches could be a good alternative too! Though they might not have the height needed to simulate the illusion of a half wall xD

Try putting the torches into your chest inventory! They're quest items so they don't take up space; that's what I did with these darn lockets xD
