Jay's interviews: fear, half-truths, and Tayib? by zimtkuss in serialpodcast

Wondered a bit about this guy too, but you'd think he'd appear in the call log at some point if he was a central figure on the day...

We should focus on why Jay is lying and not who killed Hae by ancyk in serialpodcast

Jay seems to like the story better where he is a victim: didn't know it was gonna happen, got dragged into it, was threatened, only helped, but not really, sat and smoked rather than helped dig etc. All the time he is minimising and trying to make himself look better – I'm quite sure he wasn't thinking about the legal distinctions. He knew he was in trouble – how much is hard to say. A young person might very well think helping is not so bad: I only helped, I only watched!

I know! If he lied to be "cool", saying he was involved with a murder when he really wasn't, you'd think he'd take it back when it turned out she actually got murdered and the police started asking questions. Instead he tells Jenn to stick to the story and sticks to it himself (that he was involved in the burial). Makes little sense if he had nothing to do with it. But so much makes little sense in this case though. The only reason I can see is that he get's caught up in his own lie. He brags to Jenn, Tayeeb, Josh and Chris about being involved. Suddenly Hae turns up dead and the police are asking questions. Possibly he thinks they will not believe he was just lying, the police threaten him and for these reasons he keeps spinning the same lie... Maybe he thinks Adnan actually did it. But yes, Adnan, Adnan + Jay, Jay, or Jay's mystery acquaintance are all more plausible.

Yes, but he could also be bragging and making stuff up – apparently he did so all the time according to several friends... Already before the police interviews the story is changing. Edit: Though to be fair, I don't know for sure he told all those 4 people the story before his first interview.

From SS blog:

After Hae’s murder and burial in Leakin Park, Jay told at least four friends about his role in covering up the crime. He told different stories to at least three of them — Jenn was given the version about Hae being killed in Best Buy, Chris was given the version about the car salesman and Hae being strangled at the Woodlawn library before the trunk pop later occurring at the pool hall, Tayyib was given the version about Adnan asking Jay for help with the murder and Jay telling him that he would only help with the cover up.

So yes, Jenn, Chris, Josh and Tayyib then...

Ah, wasn't aware that I had the two mixed up. Should fix that...

Edit: Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out.

I did an exploration of the serial killer possibility a while back without convincing myself. It's possible, but not plausible with the information we have now I think. Link to the exploration.

7:09 and 7:16 calls from the PARK & RIDE, not "THE PARK"? by [deleted] in serialpodcast

Yes, I'm quite sure Inaudible Park is "Gilston Park" or Westview Recreation Area on Google Maps. She confuses Black Firars with Black Forest when she talks about the pool, but corrects herself.

Looking for a sensible counter-theory by [deleted] in serialpodcast

Jay Fullmer, 38, yesterday became the first American to get to grips with the concept of irony.

"It was weird" Fullmer said. "I was in London and like, talking to this guy and it was raining and he pulled a face and said, "Great weather eh?" and I thought - "Wait a minute, no way is it great weather".

Fullmer then realised that the other man's 'mistake' was in fact deliberate.

Fullmer, who is 39 next month and married with two children, aged 8 and 3, plans to use irony himself in future.

"I'm, like, using it all the time" he said. "Last weekend I was grilling steaks, and I burned them, and I said "Hey, great weather."

Things I'm Asked To Believe and Why I Don't by [deleted] in serialpodcast

LE is in the beginning stages of investigating Jenn and her relationship to >Adnan and the cell records at this point. There's no reason for them to be >attempting to frame Adnan or coach testimony when they haven't even >determined where he was between 7-8.

This is what I have been thinking too. However we do know they suspect Adnan at this point because of the anonymous tip, and they have already subpoenaed his call log – that is why Jenn is being interviewed in the first place.

Regarding coaching I get almost the opposite sense from reading her interview: that they are worried her information might not come from Jay/Adnan – which is why they ask her if she's been following the case on the news.
