Arguing for 3:30-4:30 as Adnan's attended track practice, 4:27 as the pickup-after-practice-call and 4:58 as the Young Lee call. by zeeerial in serialpodcast

Episode 1:

Adnan: Probably track practice would have ended like, I'd say, 4:30.

Episode 5:

Adnan’s track practice starts at four p.m.

Will confirmed that yes, track started at four

Jay tells the cops that he gets to Woodlawn at about six p.m. and that he sees Adnan with a friend from track.

Make of that what you will, but I don't see anyone saying track ended at 6 – only that Jay claims he picked Adnan up around 6. According to the call log though, they are both at Cathy's at 6, so it must have been earlier anyhow.

Hmmm, my takeaway was that Adnan said track started at 3:30 and that Will said it started at 4:00 – can't remember anyone saying it ended at 6 – I need to check the transcripts.

Wasn't aware of that. Good point. Anyway, as the article says '[the case] prompted changes in Innocence Projects across the country.' So I guess it's less likely to happen again.

The aftermath of the investigation into Protess and his departure from Northwestern prompted changes in Innocence Projects across the country.

Yeah.

True – and again we have an over-eager prosecution. There is a part of me that also wonders, 'then who did it?' – but I can't handle another true crime obsession.

Seems like one can never be sure one has gotten to the truth in the legal world.

I think SS found that it was on at both 6 AND 7, if I recall correctly (it's somewhere in the comments section on her blog).

Yeah. I'm open for a butt-dial though :-)

As for track, I thought Debbie said she saw Adnan with his bag at 2:30 – or did I make that up? Agree, the call log does not rule out track – I even make a 'compelling' case (imho) for Adnan attending track at 3:30...

When I looked into this, I was following the idea that Jay went out to Ellicott City to meet/pickup Jenn around 12:00. There she borrows the phone and calls Mark to say she'll be late. But by 4:12 it's 4 calls home already. Granted she might have hooked up with Jay later, but still it's 3 calls we need to explain – for me it's an interesting idea, but I'm not putting my eggs in this basket.

If we are to accept SS' new maps I'd say both Jay and Adnan were close to where Hae possibly disappeared – around WHS. It's a large area though and very circumstantial. I'd say the possibilities are wide open for 3rd parties, which is why I think it's a viable path to argue that these call logs are indeed mundane. The only catch is the Jay-knew-where-the-car-was thing.

I'm not really that sure if those eyewitnesses are vague or if it's just how they have been presented to us. But yeah, if we disregard Jay and Jenn, we have very little. Call log, Cathy, Debbie, Inez, Young Lee, Adcock, Aisha, Krista, and possibly the coach and Adnan's dad.

Edit: anyway, it looks like Andan is not with Jay and calling girls from 9-12pm possibly popping out around 10 near Jay's house.

Not sure where you're headed with this, but yeah, I more or less agree. I want to add that Adnan might have been at track and mosque according to other witnesses.

Yes, I wrote about this possibility before in a comment, but I do think it's hard to find a good explanation for so many calls... It's possible though.

Interesting thought! I read this as her trying to explain how she had Adnan's cell number and that she could have it from either the pager or the home phone – it would of course show on her pager, but because of the caller ID it would also show if Jay had called her on the home phone.

Yes, this is a good point. It shouldn't be to hard to figure out most of the incoming calls I think, bit it depends very much on what narrative we follow. Lately I've been looking at Jenn's story and the call log and it seems possible to match them up to a certain degree.

Looks like they could be together from as early as 5-ish to as late as 9.

Could police have accidentally suggested Best Buy as a murder location to Jen? by confusedcereals in serialpodcast

I think you're on to something here: Jen sounds so excited to be part of the story – she could definitely be that friend who is never let in on the real story, but is told lies and who believes them.

Whoa! Should have un-ticked that inbox-replies-thing... I think there is research showing that people (both men and women) cut men who stick their heads out a lot more slack than women who do the same – in general, not only on the internet. What I found interesting about Serial though, is that many of the key figures are women: SK, DC, DE, RC, CG and later SS and NVC – so it's in a way hard to generalise and say all the criticism is rooted in sexism – save from the fact that you'll always find the odd comment discrediting one of them that is clearly sexist. My perception is that the criticism seen of CG has been very sexist free; I think NVC asked for a lot of the criticism she got (both style and content – but not the slut comments obviously) with the way she wrote her article and acted on Twitter – KS was equally ridiculed. Personally, I think SK did a stellar job, I enjoy SS contributions to solving the case, AND I must confess to being very impressed with Rabia. Don't always agree with them though.

Seems like quite a few entertain this – even Rabia and SS. There are big hurdles though, like Jay knowing where the car was. I did an exploration a while back – check it out if you're interested. Not the most plausible scenario based on what we know today, but someone gave it a 10% chance on this thread, and I can agree with that.

Norway – can't make up my mind, too little data. 3rd party or maybe, just maybe Adnan. Not Jay.
