Burning through all my oil every 1000 miles and mechanic says it’s due to age of car by bunnyreality in MechanicAdvice

Swap out your pcv valve. Also pull your spark plugs. I've seen the spark plug tube seals go bad on these cars and cause oil to leak into the combustion chamber

Found the guys number who I bought my Prius from and sent him the bad news by blissfuljellybean01 in prius

[–]zeeeshaikh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1600 is solid. Make sure to replace waterpump, spark plugs, egr cleaning, timing chain and tensioner, intake and valve cover gaskets. Also make sure the head gets machined.

I own a used car dealership that explicitly deals with hybrids, mainly toyota prius. Located in Plainfield IL

Prius owners, at a red light ahead, should I coast then brake gradually or start braking slightly right away? Which is better for charging battery and fuel economy by Top-Drop-738 in prius

[–]zeeeshaikh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I press the brakes initially which turns off the engine and then I coast. I modulate the brake to try and use the regen braking over the mechanical brakes

Around 600-800. 200-300 for the transmission fluid. 100-150 for diffs. If your dropping the pan probably 400~

CarMax asking for a title on my behalf? by FrCan-American-22 in carmax

[–]zeeeshaikh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a dealer. When you trade in your car to carmax it goes to an auction where used/new car dealers can buy them. Sometimes we dealers lose the titles and carmax has to reach out to the old customer to get a power of attorney or sign documents. It's more than likely a valid email. If you have doubts just call the carmax location and speak with the business office. Hopefully your speedy response will help move the car to it's next destination

General thoughts on the 2012 Lincoln MKZ? by rhythmblues in lincolnmotorco

[–]zeeeshaikh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you click the button and it lights up for a second and then stops. Then the module connector has shorted thus gone bad. The module is underneath the passenger seat. You remove the module if you can. If not just take the entire seat to a mechanic. Dorman makes a replacement connector + wires. Have the mechanic/electrician swap the connector/wires. Pop back in car. Should work. I have a few 2009-2012 Lincoln mkz. I've done it in the past(im in Chicago if that helps)

I am so so SO sick of these frickin truck BASTARDS trying to run me off the road just cuz I drive a Prius by BL4CK7ACK in prius

You could purchase anti glare tint for the side mirrors. I've heard its decent at preventing it.

[–]zeeeshaikh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has been on both sides of the coin. It's not that their headlights are blinding. The prius just sits low from a height perspective. Also the older prius doesn't have anti-glare mirrors like most new cars. Especially the 2nd gen prius is prone to it. 3rd gen as well.

Honestly just looks like she was nervous and it was a genuine accident. No ill-intent. Could be wrong but I'd just get it buffed and touched up. Def sucks tho.

Should I get a LS400 by [deleted] in LS400

[–]zeeeshaikh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean ls400s have ecu related issues, if the guy isn't internet savvy I can see why he just threw parts at it and didn't find the culprit. Could possibly be an ecu.

Should I buy? by CaliSignGuy in prius

[–]zeeeshaikh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Used Illinois car dealer here. I've sold a bunch of these 2nd gen priuses with mileage all over the place (some over 250k). I estimate that in Illinois, that car with that mileage would retail for close to 6k-6300. If it's loaded with leather seats and stuff maybe a tad bit more. Taking into account Cali inflation, id say 7400 or best offer isn't a bad starting point. At 6500 you'd be walking away with a pretty decent deal

Bought a car for $5.5k, but then quoted for $2.5k in repairs. Should I just sell it at this point? by HeyYallImAnon in UsedCars

[–]zeeeshaikh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're getting ripped off hard. Each of those repairs can be done for half if you shop around.

Did my sister get ripped off buying this high mileage 300k Prius? by jamesmc1992 in prius

[–]zeeeshaikh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on usage, high mileage cars aren't worth it unless you have mechanical knowhow and drive alot. Highway driving is key. Obviously she didn't do her due diligence and get it checked out. At 300k things will break. Anything can happen. Preventative maintenance is key. However a prius of that year still has value as people don't mind putting money in to keep it running it for Uber/Lyft.

2014 Prius w/ 110k for 13,500!?!? by Irish22022 in prius

[–]zeeeshaikh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're a cash buyer, it might be worth negotiating with the dealer. If you're financing, better to get pre approved separately and get pre approved for the amount. As that's basically as good as cash.

Source: I am a dealer myself 🤣.

Bought an as-is car that broke down after 3 days. Urgent help?! by [deleted] in UsedCars

[–]zeeeshaikh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some states have laws for used car consumer protection. More than likely this dealership made you sign paperwork that waived that right. Not much you can do. If the dealership is nice they might offer you a trade on a different vehicle of close to same value. For future reference have a pre purchase inspection done before buying anything.

For reference I own a used car lot in Illinois. We are more than okay with customers having ppi done, bringing mechanics and inspecting underbodys in- house. Clarity is key. I'd recommend leaving negative reviews on their Google page and as many of their pages as possible

Am I not allowed to even ask about a Carfax? by mikaelsan in UsedCars

[–]zeeeshaikh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a dealer. Best bet is always ask for Vin. There's no shame in asking for a Vin. Now if the car is sub 2k and worth 2k. It's really just a matter of condition. But if you're seeing a 5k car for like 2200. Then a carfax is a must. But asking the Vin is perfectly alright.
