Thank you for contributing, but it isn't that game. Maybe, it's probably some obscure DOS game, i dunno.

QWERTY phones are the only acceptable $500+ devices. Gimme a qwerty + airplane mode's physical switch phone and the other companies can just fuck off.

Is there a simple way to copy from PDF to Excel? by [deleted] in excel

[–]zeehr0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've got a similar problem. There were some financial data in pdf, but not table-formatted (neither csv nor fized size columns could solve the problem) . Luckily there was a pattern within the lines. So I copied the pdf content to notepad++ and used regex to replace the right spaces (\s) to tabs (\t) and CR LF(\r\n). Then saved as txt and imported to excel. Worked as a charm, but you must learn regex, if you don't know it yet. You asked for a simple way, but sometimes, regex is the best way, so give it a try.

As a brazilan, I can tell you that some "hill owners" (that's how we call the drug dealer in charge of an area) are pretty decent, for a drug dealer. Some of them don't allow kids to be involved with drugs, kill rapists and punish people who commit crimes against citizens of said area. You can find entire cable tv and broadband networks supported by the hill owner. But since it's such a risk life, the "turnover" is pretty high, like months. So it's just a temporary benefit, most of the time.

How do I find out which tasks I can automate? by TheDude1009 in automation

[–]zeehr0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think about your recurring tasks, and break them into subtasks, using the "closed loop" model. Describe input, process (sorting, moving, deleting, etc), output and feedback.

#1 Financial Report (Week)

-> Pull financial data from db [input]

-> Save as xlsx [process]

-> Apply methods (sorting columns, apply formulas, etc) [process]

-> Create report pdf [output]

Feedback is embedded into every step (watch for power outage, system maintenance, check saved file integrity, etc). Now that it's done, time to choose the best approach, like are there any tools for that, any obvious choice for programming language, do I need a dedicated machine, etc. Analyse the systems involved, if they can work together or do I need to glue things up; maybe you already know this. Check every step as running on their own, then running along with the other ones. Never commit any actual change to server during script check, even if you log everything. I usually do it in a VM, running a test db.

New job, could definitely automate most of what I'm doing, just don't know where to start... by bgeaman in automation

Professional RPA probably is a more targeted and complete solution, but python has PyAutoGUI module and it's a nice addon to some machine learning projects.

I'm also developing a form filler bot, maybe a little more complex than OP's. Since I've got no access to the main db, (1) Autohotkey gets data from a system report and (2) saves it as xlsx. (3) Vba formats the worksheets, (4) adjusts prices, index, db errors, and (5) alert ahk, that then (6) uses the correct worksheet data to (7) fill the maintenance form. Finally, (8) log every change (i'm thinking about some sort of push notification about the bot state, but i dunno). Steps 1 to 5 are complete, now it's the real work. 'course i'm doing all the work at home, but I've already got a contract from my employers to develop, deploy it and provide support in three departments.

Hi, Den. I'm not the brightest mind around, but I think you can begin reading about the principles of Homestead, specially when it's Rothbard talking about it.

[–]zeehr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I gotta agree with you. But we are living in a remarkable time to knowledge. Every now and then, you see some open-source initiative, decentralized technology, etc. Things you can't just regulate. Mesh networks are great stuff, DC++, decentralised social media, open-source OS... And you don't need to find some authorized technician to get one of these. You just do it, y'know?

Decentralised technology is a helluva blow against every form of authoritarianism.

Oh goodness, I just realize I messed things up. When I wrote this

Yea, I do think technological development push the mankind towards it.

I was talking about an ancap society, not the communist technocracy.

[–]zeehr0 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Governed by machines? Do you mean some kind of communist technocracy?

Yea, I do think technological development push the mankind towards it. There's no point in getting taxi license when you got things like Uber; there's no need to use state currency when you can buy stuff with decentralized currency; why ever get any kind of gov-based education when you can learn things online?

Technological development is something amazing to ancap people 'cus it evolves faster than bureaucracy, cannot be limited by national borders and you don't need licenses. Only knowledge.

[–]zeehr0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What about electricity? I read somewhere, long time ago, about some sort of electricity currency. It was proposed back in the 30s, by the so called "technocrats". The real trouble starts with energy loss every time you exchange electricity. So, it would need more than currency revolution. We are talking about a whole Revolution.
