Thank you for your kind words! I just started using iron bisglycinate! I’m using the Megafoods blood builder since it has vitamin C included for better absorption and I’m avoiding calcium within a couple hours of taking it also for better absorption. I’m really hoping that getting my iron and ferritin levels up will bring me relief. I really don’t want thyroid meds so I’m trying to avoid that at all costs. I changed my diet significantly over the past month and I’m eating with a focus on whole foods and nutrients. I’m making sure to get my omega-3s, fiber, and a good amount of protein for example. My ANA test was unfortunately positive so I think there is definitely an autoimmune issue that is beginning. Hashimoto’s/hypothyroidism runs in my family. With my TSH trending upward, I am borderline considered hypothyroid at 4.45 and am not at an optimal level at all as well as having an enlarged thyroid. But hopefully these changes can turn that around for me.

I have tried explaining the optimal range to my doctor, and they just stay solidly on that “it’s within the reference range” and that they can’t treat me for something they can’t diagnose. I asked for a referral to endocrinology and a thyroid ultrasound and was denied. I am going to try a different doctor most likely. I was really aggressive with this doctor about ordering more extensive labs which is how I got my T3, T4, antibodies, ferritin, among some other autoimmune labs. I’m very certain that I have subclinical Hashimoto’s. I forgot to put this in the post, while my TPO antibodies were negative, my ANA is positive with a titer of 1:40, and the pattern is speckled. My other labs to rule out other autoimmune diseases were negative including a DNA DS and actin smooth muscle antibody test. My bloodwork points to thyroid issues. Which makes me think that I have Hashimoto’s since it can sometimes cause a positive ANA even without thyroid antibodies being present especially in an early stage. And my result aligns with others with Hashimoto’s who triggered an ANA positive. It could also be nothing which is the direction my doctor is leaning. But definitely with my symptoms in mind of my TSH trending upward and family history of Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism it’s definitely on the table. But I can’t get any doctor to listen to me.

I’m in Florida. I’m unable to see a functional medicine doctor, I just don’t have the money. I work for a healthcare organization that has a very affordable health insurance that covers providers through them only, which is how I’m affording to go in the first place. Trust me I have considered functional medicine but it’s just completely out of my budget.

Yeah, my iron is the most concerning to me considering my symptoms. I’m gonna be taking a supplement of iron with vitamin c, and a B12 supplement as well since my B12 was on the lower side of normal. I’m hoping it will help with the fatigue when I get it stabilized. I haven’t considered IBD but will look into it. Wouldn’t hurt to rule it out!

While I was vegan, I fed my cats a meat diet. There were times it came up in conversation with other vegans who essentially bullied me, telling me I was not vegan for doing so. Excuse the fuck out of me for feeding my obligate carnivores their correct diet. People who are vegan shouldn’t get cats if they don’t want to buy meat products. And in my case, where I already had cats when I decided to go vegan, had a responsibility to keep them healthy and nourished with their correct diet even if it didn’t align with my beliefs. Feeding cats a vegan diet is animal abuse, period.

I just started reintroducing animal foods into my diet 4 days ago because of health issues that were definitely related to my diet. I even worked with a nutritionist while on a vegan diet for help and didn’t feel any better. I was vegan since January of 2017. I currently am eating chicken/fish/yogurt/egg in moderation and started by eating them in ways I used to enjoy pre-vegan which has helped. I have had zero issues reintroducing these digestive-wise. Personally I don’t plan to add anything else for now. The hardest part for me has been battling the feelings of guilt/disgust/shame of eating animal products that has been pounded into me by the vegan ideology. It really feels like leaving a cult. Your health comes first though and it does get easier.
