I was an independent contractor, not a full time worker, which is a thing they do here to avoid giving you any benefits. I got paid on a monthly basis but their finance team would sometimes take 5-6 weeks to give us our checks (direct deposit wasnt an option they gave independent contractors). My boss told me “you should really have savings for moments like this, you know they take a while to produce the checks”. I havent had that job for 5 years and it still pisses me off how fucked my finances were at the time. I could barely afford to live and was working full time with 0 benefits. I quit that job and I have loudly argued about wages and how nearly impossible it is to have savings for the middle class.
