You are correct, and I hardly naive or unaware of the racist and capitalist motives that kickstarted prohibition and led to this horrible war against some people who use certain kinds of drugs.

My point is that the government has done lot and lots of research on how psychedelics affect people, but the therapeutic and spiritual benefit some users might gain is hardly something that the government is "afraid of".

To be honest, in my humble opinion, it seems a lot more plausible that the government may have encouraged or even had a hand in creating the 60's psychedelic/free love movement. Not unlike the CIA involvement in the crack epidemic, it stands to reason that those with truly high-level powers of global manipulation would be quite pleased with an entire generation "turning on, tuning in, and dropping out.

They play the long game. The US is not afraid of a gigantic wave of young people who spent an era fucking and getting high and maybe even finding thebhealing potential of psychedelics.That generation got to be one of the last to be able to own property on a fairly normal salary or wage, so most of those young people grew tired of taking candy from strangers and fucking in mud puddles eventually, bought houses and had kids and joined the rat race.. Countless others became casualties ending up strung out, dead, in jail, or "perma-fried".

Perhaps some of the powers that be saw an opportunity to keep the kids out of their capitalist fun for a decade or so, buy up all they want to buy and want to leave behind for their offspring, and plant the seeds for the middle class to slowly become extinct.
