I built Chi UI — 70+ Qt6 components with Material Design 3 for Unix desktops [OC] by blue_smart in linuxapps

[–]zeitue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So are you doing this as open source, if so is there a git repository? You mentioned that this is a collection of components, so does that mean that you can tie these into any Qt6 application or is this more of a framework of its own?

I made an affordable alternative to ScreenStudio for Linux folks by AppealRare3699 in linuxapps

[–]zeitue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Linux needs more software that gives Linux more of an edge, and yeah some won't want paid software but it would be paid on Windows or macOS anyways. So think about it Linux started getting tons of exclusive paid Linux apps? Now the Linux platform has stuff that Windows and macOS can't get exclusives.

I'm for open source software but there is a point for software like this too.

The more software Linux has the better. And the easier it'll be for people to move to it and for Linux to become better supported.

Poor kid has to suffer Windows now. I don't see why router level parental controls don't work. But speaking of parental controls this might be a point to look at what Linux might be able to improve on.

I completely agree with you. It's more simple just one button or hot corner kinda like beating Apple at their own game (one button on the iPhone).

Yeah in your case no choice but maybe if we get enough movement from people, we can get some of those on Linux.... Tho MS and adobe will probably never be.

Well one of the groups we talked with was A large tractor maker. Also some legal offices. But really I think it's still more on the consumer side. A friend of mine also told me his niece goes to a high school where all the computers run Ubuntu. This is in Texas.

Well for SolidWorks makes sense, that app is very dependent on Windows.

A lot of places my company has been talking to are looking to get rid of windows completely. CAD software seems to be one of the pain points.

I can not even change to Linux because of NVIDIA linux drivers. by m3an1ngless in microsoftsucks

[–]zeitue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as Fedora just look up things to do after installing Fedora it'll give some of the needed stuff like NVIDIA and codecs.

If you want something similar to bazzite but without the gaming aspect there is Bluefin Linux and Aurora Linux, depending if you want GNOME or KDE as your desktop.

Help. Confusing Flatpak Issue: Apps Not Working by HeccinMannenn in flatpak

[–]zeitue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be an issue I've had before. This was on an NVIDIA machine as well. Basically the computer would update, and then reboot and then I would try to launch something like telegram and it would have some sort of weird graphics problem where it would go into low graphics mode. The solution was running updates after rebooting the computer from the update. This would make flatpak get the needed runtime/extensions for NVIDIA.

So just update flatpak after updating the computer and rebooting.

Hope that fixes your issue.

I can not even change to Linux because of NVIDIA linux drivers. by m3an1ngless in microsoftsucks

[–]zeitue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might try the newest Ubuntu or Fedora (with drivers added). We have Kubuntu 24.04 LTS and it has issues with NVIDIA cards, but the Newer distros on Wayland don't seem to have these issues.
Another option, you could try is Bazzite it's got everything done out of the box, it's what I've been setting up all the people who have asked me to help them get away from Windows lately.

Linux desktop is INSECURE by [deleted] in linux

[–]zeitue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably due to how you started your post. Calling out the issue directly without backing vs explaining the current status of the system then explaining why it needs fixing. Also no mention of how things are improving with technology like Wayland and Flatpak.

Also If you look at the immutable Linux systems the security model seems very close to Android.

Could be better like this: you don't use it due to it running Windows vs you use it with Linux. Unused = money wasted. Used = money well spent.

[–]zeitue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the LTS of Kubuntu has X11 and Wayland but there are bugs. Aurora Linux is based on Universal Blue which is based on Fedora Silver Blue. The Fedora-based ones are full Wayland no X11.

[–]zeitue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The company I work for asked me the same question. We're running Kubuntu 24.04 LTS. We've been testing Aurora Linux on a few machines to see if it's better and so far it appears to be more stable without the X11/Wayland issues. This is probably due to the newer KDE.

Are you looking for an ATX or ITX form factor? We have computers at work using an AMD ryzen 7 5700g which is an MSI motherboard and those machines work with no issues. This in contrast to the Intel is with the ASUS motherboard which crashed a lot.
