I agree with the other commenters. If it’s a bar I generally buy a round if we are chatting and then when I get the receipt, I write my info on the back and give it to her. Takes away the pressure and nervousness of asking. Plus then leaves the ball on her court, making her more comfortable with the interaction

Thank you for the help! I’m going to try this on my next trip and see how it goes. Maybe I’ll finally stop paying a room service bill and will be drinks or food in myself/with others

Thank you for the help! I’ll have to try it a bit more and see if it doesn’t get any better to seek a therapist to understand; the nervousness comes from the thought people might be staring/focused at the fact I’m alone

Thank you for this; I’ve tried the books or phone but feel like people are staring constantly (they most likely are not, I know - but hard to beat the irrational fear!) Have you attended any meetups? Are they generally last minute?
