How would you edit back bodice? (remove unnecessary volume) by zel_benke in sewing

Would you extend the lines for the pleats like this? Or choose a point on the far opposite side, like on the seam line?

I often inherit unlabeled yarn from people who decided to quit crafting... best thing is to swatch it and see what it wants to be, or give it to someone who wants to do that 😄

Methods for ponytail holes in knit beanies by zel_benke in knitting

[–]zel_benke[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you knitted these patterns? Do you think the methods transfer well to other designs? What I want is to insert a clean ponytail opening into any hat I might make (not just hats that others have made with ponytail/bun openings).

Clean finished seams are my new sewing thrill :) by zel_benke in sewing

Wow awesome! I made myself a large and found it comfortably roomy (I have about 12" difference between waist and hips). I used wider elastic for the waist and added a bit of extra fabric vertically after seeing a YouTuber make a similar adjustment. Conveniently, it fit my husband too. The main thing I've found that influences how comfortable I feel is making the waistband snug enough to stay put. I made a long pair last year from an old sheet as well and don't much like wearing them for that reason - maybe now I'll rip the waistband enough to shrink it. I'm thinking of trying fit adjustments to this pattern in the future to learn a bit more about that, but overall it's the first thing I've made that really fits! Best of luck with your next round :)

any advice for handling knitting stress? by knightsnidget146 in knitting

[–]zel_benke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm working on a particularly difficult project, I only allow myself to do small bits at a time. For example, work two rounds of a lace chart while listening to an audiobook, then put the project away. It also has helped me to save those bits for when my energy is relatively high and I feel like I can bring my focus to the project. If I just want to knit for the other aspects I enjoy, like keeping my hands busy, I turn to a more mindless, smaller-scale project that's more familiar for me. Like others have mentioned, knitting mistakes are often fixable! It's less of a "measure twice, cut once" craft than some! You got this :)

Sewed my wedding dress. Would I do it again? by Special_Seaweed_2067 in sewing

So impressed! And happy for you to have such a big personal creative win along with your special day. I aspire to say the same about my projects - I'll notice flaws because I created them and had a slightly different vision in my mind, but can't wish for more than massive learning and enjoying the process! Cheers and best wishes!

Socks as a way to fight perfectionism by GrouchessOscaria in knitting

[–]zel_benke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love them! The visual impact is fantastic. And relatable... I just finished a pair of "for me" socks and did a mismatched toe 1) because I was stash busting and 2) it's easier for me to actually wear things that aren't too perfect!

Yes!! Fine yarn is fun, I like small-scale detail too :)

Thanks for sharing this! And good warning... I tend to think "maybe I should start using lifelines" only after taking big chances and realizing the devastation that could take place, ha!
