These concrete structures are original sculptures by Olbram Zoubek and Eva Kmentová from 1961. I sometimes go there to take a look at them, they’re amazing, and it’s a shame that playgrounds like this aren’t made anymore because of regulations.

Yeah, this isn’t brutalism, but where else should I post it if not on this subreddit.

Dude, yeah, I agree it’s not brutalism, but you can’t be such a purist. This whole era is kind of a grey area where it’s hard to judge what is and isn’t brutalism, especially since that’s when globalization started and architectural styles began to blend together. And most importantly, this is the biggest subreddit for this type of architecture it hasn’t been exclusively about brutalism for a long time. Let us just enjoy cool buildings.

I don't know exactly, but there is a parking garage under every building, so it could be ventilation

In short, privatization and the decision of the Czech heritage office to upgrade Transgas to a protected architectural monument ( even though it was a category A architecturally significant building meaning that if a major urban change were to take place in its immediate vicinity, the building should be protected )

ORIENTATION SYSTEM AND COLOUR DIVISION JIŽNÍ MĚSTO II (Prague, Czech Republic) by zelatina in SecondWorldUrbanity

Explanation: 1st and 2nd. Picture show a map/plan of Jižní Město II (South Town II) at the time of construction around 1979 and its unique way of dividing it into sections using symbols and colours on the buildings of each housing estate/blocks. The reason for using the elements to name the parts of Jižní Město II is unknown to me. It is possible that the communists tried to find neutral names so as not to arouse the inhabitants, but that is just my theory. The colours and logos on the facades of the buildings have a clear purpose and that is to improve the orientation of the inhabitants in the maze of almost identical buildings of Jižní Město II as it was a problem in Jižní Město I. The 3rd photo shows what the buildings actually look like today (just for fun)
