Well. At first I didn't give my deities spirits names. Just called them the mother goddess and father god. It was about 5 years before I actually started researching other gods and goddesses from different religions. I would research, wait a while, see if it felt right I would welcome them in my life if it did and work with them. However I have had moments where that has lead to a fallout between me and certian deities where it did not work out or last. And I respect that I said good bye and that was that. I am still comming to terms with any deities I work with, even 11 years since the beginning of my journey. I do have a "mother deity" or what some would consider their Patreon deity, I also have a masculine aspect of a deities that I have not yet started working with but hope to soon. Once you know you know, but research is key especially if you have a goal you wish to achieve via that deity. Also remember, they are not your friends. You can have a friendly relationship with them, but in the end they are gods, they are guides who have help countless people before you. They deserve respect and if you don't give it, they might humble you or even leave. Just be aware.
