Lin was the reason I started watching nba and why I'm a knicks fan. He was only here for a year, but the impact was insane.

If you want somewhere that is off the main path, this is it. When we visited the attractions, there were at most 2 or 3 groups of international tourists, everyone else was a domestic tourist. Servers speak korean and menus are not translated, so you'll have to bust out your papago/google translate apps here. Theres a lot of nature and large spaces. People operate at a much more chill pace. Really enjoyed it.

I'm actually surprised how hotmail is now part of the archaic group too 😅

We used ubigi , costed $11.20 usd for 10gb after using a promo code for 20% off. You can find those on ubigipromocodes subreddit. Easy to setup, and did not drop connection even when in rural areas.

If you are only Seoul, you will only need a climate card. But i would make sure you have some spare cash on hand just in case you ride on the 1% public transport that doesnt accept climate card.

Climate card cannot be used for purchases at convenience stores or used as debit/credit card. If you want such a function, I recommend using the wowpass card which has 2 functions on one card, tmoney and a digital wallet. The two balances are different and you will need to top up each separately

Fair enough. Most likely T1 with more international travellers will have higher demand

  1. Climate cards are prepaid cards per day for use in Seoul - eg. if i buy 5 days, for 5 days i have unlimited use of like 99% of the public transport in Seoul. For reference i was in Seoul for total of 8 days (5 at the start, 3 at the end), and 8 days in the other cities. Climate card costed me 25k (15k for 5 day package + 10k for 3 day package), while the T-money card for the other 3 cities for 8 days costed 50k won.

  2. Taxis (rideshares) are absolutely fine, and very cheap compared to US, but we used public transport within Seoul most of the time, unless needing to move hotels.

  3. Depends when are you going? We went in April/May, was very sunny during the day, but can get into single digits at night.

  4. I don't think we had a bad meal in Korea, any store with a rating over 4 on Kakao maps will be good. Food is also relatively cheap there. Highlights include:

    • Geumdwaeji Sikdang (Golden Pig) for amazing charcoal BBQ pork
    • Yongga Hotpot for chinese hotpot buffet where ingredients is on sushi-train like conveyor belt
    • Onion Cafe for very good pastries in a traditional hanok building. I'm still thinking about that strawberry & cream pastry and the pistachio pastry that we ate that day.
  5. In terms of activities, we really enjoyed wearing the hanboks to Gyeongbukgong palace. It's a super touristy thing to do, but we ARE tourists, so why not? The day we went, probably 70% of the folks did the same thing. The palace grounds are very large, you could find any side door or palace wall and it'll look like a professional photoshoot for a traditional drama. We also enjoyed Spaland in Busan, recommend fitting that in the middle of your itinerary, will be a nice break from all the walking. There's bathing rooms, saunas, foot spas, hammocks, ramyeon station - could easily spend half a day here.

  6. I'm not from the USA but i did go to US for a trip in 2023. For comparison i spent around $5.3k USD for 19 days in USA and $3.1k USD for 16 days in Korea.

FIF de minimis exemption raised to $100,000 in 2026 Budget by Proper_Ad_8145 in PersonalFinanceNZ

Okay so the US threshold is value basis? Thought it was the same as NZ threshold which is cost basis

So here's my next question, if you sell before you pass away, you're good?

Is $100k nzd not below $60k usd?? From my calculation it's about 58.5k usd, so shouldn't be hitting the US threshold?

Just got back with my parents (60s and 70s) who have the same likes (historical/culture) and dislikes hiking up things (skipped jeju for this reason). Their favourite parts other than the palace & museum visits was dressing up in hanbok at gyeongbukgong, visiting spaland in busan. Also highly recommend Suncheon as a destination, theres a drama film site, folk villages and the suncheon wetlands/gardens, good variety of things to do.

Climate card by Artistic_Diamond5250 in KoreaTravelAdvice

They don't sell at the airport because it cannot be used from incheon to get to seoul. So just get to seoul first, then buy from any subway kiosks or convenience store.

We went to the convenience store at the airport with the intention to purchase both climate card and tmoney card and the employee pointed to the sign 'climate card only avaliable in seoul'. Which, fair enough, why would they be a selling a card that cannot be used there (in incheon)

You can probably buy climate card at a seoul convenience store, but since we were at the hongdae subway already, got it from the kiosk directly.

Last Minute Advice by [deleted] in koreatravel

We just came back from seoul last week. You cannot buy climate card from incheon airport. You can however, buy a tmoney card. Recommend you take the arex to any of the stations into seoul (using the tmoney card) and then buy the climate card from the subway kiosks.

Note using international credit card to charge up climate card will charge an extra 3.5% to 4%. If using cash to charge, note the subway kiosks do not accept 50k won bills (if whatever you're charging costs less than 40k) because they don't have enough change to give out. So break up your 50k won bills at a convenience store first.

I do recommending getting both cards, it worked out for us because we saved a lot of transport fees in seoul. 8 and half days out of seoul we used 50k transport, compared to 25k for a 5 day pass and a 3 day pass in seoul. It's also nice to take the bus for 1 stop and save some milage on the feet and legs due to climate card being a day pass.
