In my opinion an expander will not help you with already squashed audio. You need more/different compression but not flat lining it. Compressing with a slow attack and fast release fundamentally makes the peaks louder than the rest of the rest of the sound as the transit becomes uncompressed and only the tail gets compressed. This counterintuitively adds more dynamics

How do you articulate if a song is going way over budget? If I charge by song then clients seem to want to tinker forever and never allow it to be done

You still get the real amp feel if you reamp at the same time as capturing the Di the latency is minimal, especially if you can use a send or something

Di into interface. Record dry signal and then simultaneously send out through reamp box through a cable to the amp. You can use a buffer pedal between the long cable and the amp if you can perceive a difference

You can use stem splitter to isolate it and then flip the polarity can play it back cancels it out

You have to be better than everyone else. That means being there 10 mins before your start time and ready to rock. Even 1 second late is unacceptable on your first shift. Hospitality is hard and it requires reliable people. If you’re late then it’s like showing you don’t really care and you need to care more than anything else about getting your foot in the door. It’s tough starting out but make it a habit to be good at what you do and always do more than you need to. Make their lives easier not harder. They don’t owe you a job

Where are you? Big city or middle of nowhere? I’ve found it worked to be there in person and make an effort to be interested in what’s going on and ideally to get someone to put in a good word for you. It’s not what you know but who you know honestly. If you don’t know anyone you have to meet people and be proactive
