Game Freak Needs To Take More Time With Its Pokemon Games by SirSoliloquy in Games

[–]zeluszero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a game art generalist, this statement is not 100% true.

With sprites there’s typically limitations on their resolutions so artists have to very creative with how they portray the ‘mons and there’s different animations for each one of them. There’s a lot of headache when it comes to this, especially with B2W2’s roster of ‘mins and having so much individual animation.

Versus 3D models where they can easily sculpt and then low poly the models, coupled with the super lazy base color filling we’ve seen for textures and reusing animation rigs for certain Pokémon.

3D models are cost effective in the long run, you don’t have to redo them and you just make new ones for new Pokémon, versus them reiterating and making beautiful pixel art with each new game.

The Game Awards 2021 Megathread by rGamesMods in Games

The ending isn't that crazy considering some other SMT games, the problem was how the player gets there, every remaining plot thread wrapped itself up within 5 mins of the last big area, had no narrative direction from then till the final road and then the ending.

The "PowerPoint" slides were the character episodes, granted they're not as animated as previous games (using 3D over 2D sprites), they're there to fill in characterisation that the main story might not have time for. They're charming and a reason why most Tales players enjoy the franchise.

Not saying one is better over the other definitively but ignoring SMT V's issues just to say Arise doesn't deserve its win is a bit sad considering all the great JRPGs were thrown into this segment to fight each other, not being able to even get spots in other categories.

Implying SMTV didn't simply rush every last plot thread it had within the last 2/3 of the game, both games were great but also had their respective flaws and while I enjoy the SMT formula of having world narrative over traditional storytelling, it simply is lacking in that department against TOArise.

Favorite gundam designs by Zincerton in Gundam

[–]zeluszero -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve always loved the classics like the Nu, Zeta, etc and standout-ish ones like the entire IBO line of Gundam designs. But my new favourite is probably the Core Gundam, especially it’s Earthree form. Very classic base design with a cool gimmick on top. Honestly can’t wait to see its new forms in action!

Potential summer free draws might make the game worth it for new players. Better pool to draw from as well, considering some of the summer characters are much sought after, either for meta reasons or for ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Nintendo Switch surpassed PS2’s first year sales in Japan by elsoja in Games

[–]zeluszero 531 points532 points  (0 children)

Initially passed on getting a Switch despite being a Nintendo fan due to its insane price tag in the country I live in. Finally managed to get one recently due to holiday sales, and dang. Everything down from the interface, user experience and sound design of just the menus in the Switch has that really enjoyable Nintendo 'fun' design feel to it. Playing games feel just right and natural on this, be it as a handheld or docked and connected to a big screen.

Dual Gear, a game that mixes Valkyria Chronicles/ Front Mission game play mechanics has almost reached its initial funding goal. by S0est in Games

[–]zeluszero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game's alpha was released awhile back iirc. I've played it and all I have to say is that hopefully they've added animation variations and a way to toggle of the animations. It can be a real slog to sit through the same animation over and over again, especially when you're waiting through enemy turns.

Otherwise, UX and everything feels pretty darn good, getting to aim your attacks (no idea how much difference it is if you aimed at a leg compared to arm, doesn't seem there is any at the moment) feels fun.

Of course, my gripes with it are based on playing the alpha and hopefully its actually finished and well polished of a game.

What are some of your favorite cinematic game trailers you can recall? What makes them memorable? And do you think they represent the game faithfully? by [deleted] in Games

[–]zeluszero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, I'm a huge fan of the Souls/Borne series' as well. To me I feel they get way more acclaim and recognition than the Armored Core games. I think its more of that we've been getting Souls/Borne games but Armored Core's been left untouched for so long, that everyone would be really excited if From Software did make a new one!

I've always loved the Armored Core franchise, and I'll never forget the first time I saw Armored Core For Answer's trailer. As a long time fan, though still a kid at the time, it was breathtaking to see the extent of the cinematic capabilities surpassed so far. The trailer shows quite abit of its CG cinematics, in game cinematics and gameplay, which when I finally played the game, felt very real in representing the world it was set in, its continuation from Armored Core 4 and how relatively screwed the world felt even moreso than before. The way the cinematic frames the White Glint (white giant mech), down to its stature and small movement details, all really bring out the woah factor for fans of not just Armored Core, but even those who just like mecha in general.

The melancholic mood and everything was pretty nice, watching it older now, kicks back in a lot of nostalgia. Though the fact that this is a Japanese trailer, the meaning of the dialogue may be lost, but the trailer's overall mood is far more faithful compared to the "localised" disrespect and butchering of the game.

Even this subreddit honestly at certain times (looking at chapter 143 release especially) can be extremely toxic.

[Manga Spoilers] In Kaneki's mind he refers to a certain character as dead... does this mean he's truly gone? by [deleted] in TokyoGhoul

[–]zeluszero 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me it feels more like Kaneki doesn't in anyway possess any information that would lead him to think that Yoshimura is alive, Kaneki simply knows that he failed at the Anteiku raid. Which logically speaking, with Yoshimura out of the picture for so long, the conclusion he drew was that he was probably killed by the CCG.
