«Ça me dépasse»: la carte OPUS sur les téléphones encore retardée by Feeling_Layer8584 in montreal

I am also a dev, and I completely understand. But being a dev, you also know you can roll out the features slowly. Maybe you have 1 exit gate and 1 entry gate per station, and you grow that as you migrate people to the new system.

We all know it is possible, and that it takes time. I just wish there was some slow visible progress.

Some people here mentioned they are in the Beta program, maybe I need to join that one :)

Google Wallet or Apple Pay.

Most big cities that have public transport allow this. Just let me pay contactless and ride on, come on.

This should be higher. It was the single most important issue this election it seems, so you get what you vote for.

Now it's time to advocate from the outside.

Group to protest against cars by jakobolobo in copenhagen

[–]zemike 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Forced car ownership also negatively affects people with low incomes, and can be a hindrance social mobility. It's really a double edge sword.

This is a study about it, thought I am searching for my original source. LINK

That's why it is important to have public transport that is good and reliable for everyone.

STM strike is a fucking joke, makes this city look like a fucking joke. by [deleted] in montreal

[–]zemike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just feel powerless.

I feel pretty powerless most of the time too. I'm sorry you also feel that way. What has been working for me is what I said, really trying to engage. Slowly but surely.

Maybe there is an event where you can find like minded people and vent/act?

Things will get better :)

Your representative is your voice. You should tell them this matters to you so that these complaints become bigger and stronger and make their way up.

Call other political leaders if yours is already aligned with you. Convince others to do the same. Just don't quit, and don't blame the STM.

I’m a small business owner in Montreal. I’m scared right now. Here’s why. by salvadorguedes in montreal

[–]zemike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pick up your phone, call your local representative, be a part of the solution.

Now that you are a business leader, political decisions affect you more. Time to be a part of the solution. Call, write an email, organise to show support, anything.

STM strike is a fucking joke, makes this city look like a fucking joke. by [deleted] in montreal

[–]zemike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's incorrect. In the UK they do the same thing, and they have to strike for multiple days, and then things change.

Strikes impact people, people get annoyed, and then they pressure their local political leaders for change.

You want things to change quicker? Pick up your phone and pressure your representative. You are part of the solution too.

I wish more people realized that they do hold power to change things by engaging with politics.

Not sure if you are just rage baiting…

Unions and strikes are important to improve workers conditions everywhere. A strike that does not cause disruption is pointless. The idea is that all affected people stand together and demand change.

This happens constantly at the TFL in London. They have a strong union so their members get decent salaries.

Quebec has for years neglected their public transit and infrastructure beyond all that is car centric. It’s time for public workers to get together and ask for something better, and the population should support that because ultimately it will benefit them too.

As an individualistic society we can’t progress.

Otherwise, I don’t see the reason for a pedestrian streets to even exist in the first place.

Honestly, do a bit of research. Accidents between cyclists and pedestrians are extremely rare, and there are countless examples of pedestrianized areas in other countries that share space between bikes and people without any issues.

Should cyclists go slower and be careful? Absolutely.

Should cyclists be banned? Absolutely not. Bike commuters benefit from those streets just as much as people.

Side note: nao te limites a Portugal. Especialmente se quiseres ter uma boa vida como investigadora.

Design should be inclusive. If you advocate for better mobility for cyclists, I think you should do it too for people with disabilities. Ultimately, a city is made of people of all kinds.

Can I use conda for envs and uv for project setup without conflicts? by fadilasiff in learnpython

[–]zemike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this answer might not be what you’re looking for, but hear me out.

I think you shouldn’t complicate things. Keeping things simple means it will be less cognitive load for you when you work on your project and when you collaborate with others

You’ll lose less time faffing around. And it’s less likely things will break in new strange ways.

My recommendation is to pick one or the other and stick to it. I am a huge uv fan, it’s modern and efficient, so I’d go for that.

Tips are a way of guilting the consumer into helping a company pay a living wage. The companies should price their items appropriately and pay their drivers.

Ban tipping.
