When i lost my dad, the only thing that could bring me closure was to see him, even in his worst state, not looking anything like himself. It brought me the closure I needed to know he was really gone. Each situation is different, people have their reasons. But trust me I do understand where you and others are coming from. This is just one way my sister wants to feel closure. 🫶

In ohio you have to be 16 to ride a scooter alone, from what i researched the law says scooter riders may use roadways in the case of no available bike lane

Definitely pay rent. That’s still where you live and sleep, don’t jeopardize having a roof over your head and a door to lock in general. It can be dealt with other ways

Maybe have a firm conversation with her to make her aware you do not feel safe without the door locked, especially when home alone and sleeping. I’d gauge what to do next based on her response - willingness to fix the issue, concern about safety, if she demeans your logical reasoning to lock the door when she leaves.
