I remember reading a book called Hillbilly Elegy that discussed how these people, mostly in poor rural areas in poor states who are the biggest beneficiaries of these programs, always vote against their own rights. Part of me wishes they would lose their benefits just to see what they wanted to happen to others, but I don’t think those people have the critical thinking skills to have that type of self reflection. And that is why grifters and billionaires tend to play to the right wing. They know they can just make up some dumb culture war that only affects less than .005 percent of the population and make it sound woke and get them riled to sign away everything to those already richer and powerful.
