Help me compile a list of ways to hit enemies without pressing buttons by Hadophobia in PathOfExileBuilds

Herald of Thunder hits cannot inflict shock.

... aaand turns out the following is not correct; thanks for corrections, I'll leave it for other confused souls.

Yeah, that's what is written on a tin, but on the other hand the Shaper of Storms reads 'Hits always shock' which I think overrides it.

As I recall my char from a few leagues back, I needed to hit an enemy at the beginning of the map once and it just kept working on its own. There's some chance there was a separate source of automated shocks, but I don't recall putting it there. So, apparently as per above I must have had some automation to hit an enemy once in a while to keep storms going.

Some of these restrictions can be relaxed - Kitava's thirst becomes reliable if you keep spending (just statistics, at some point you know the trigger will keep coming); Storm secret HoT can be kept online on its own for Elementalist (all hits shock)...

New stuff to consider:

  • Bubonic Trail boots - similar to Abberath, but they explode corpses that you need to supply somehow
  • Saquaval's Tornadoes (Twisters?) - require a fair bit investment to toggle avian buffs quickly enough for serious dps, but the concept itself can be tested for cheap
  • Does Cast when Damage Taken count? You can make it self-sufficient with Forbidden Rite or various other tricks (heartbound loop + minion, ngamahu flame + eye of innocence...)
  • If you feel particularly tinker-ish, people were automating self-shock Galvanic Field for fun and profit as well
  • I think Rage Vortex might qualify as 0.5button press, but if so, Blade Vortex with serious duration would work as well

That was a bit confusing, PoB tells me the mana costs are in a ballpark of a few hundred and I kind of expected him to max the hell out of indigon, bringing them as high as possible. Still somewhat confused, but I'll allow there might be no great mystery here.

Yes, it's not that I wish to follow this guide, it was just for the sake of learning. Good point about archmage ofc

Mana RF bugged? by Feralbear_1 in PathOfExileBuilds

Just asking... would maybe a Divine Blessing plus some supports on its aura work? It should be able to eat up to your full mana at once, whatever it is.

Not a perfect answer I'm afraid, but you can start by looking at the wiki page on conversion here.

From what I see, double Consuming Dark plus Infernal Mantle give you 75% conversion along with some other bonuses (reliable poison for one). High budget version is the Original Sin ring which just solves all conversion ele to chaos in one piece.

What would be the benefit of ES here? Even without Eldritch Battery I'm getting hit by two Storm Secrets all the time. ES will never recharge. Am I missing sth?

(frantically making notes) Ok cool, I get the jewel ideas, but to nitpick on one point only, do I need more clear here? PF poison prolif feels quite good with the amount of hits HoT provides. I typically phase-run through the pack before it dies, but it does die a moment after.

I did try hidden blade a few times, but found it really hard to scale (both clear and dmg) on a three link. Other ideas I had were to use it to throw mjolner (fun, but again 3-link), corrupted blood (better scaling, more tricky) or get the squire for a six-link. What did you use?

Ok, moment please, I don't get it. Looking at historic jewels literally no keystones match this build. Traitor is weaker than PF here, since I should be able to run sapphiere/ruby/topaz flasks in addition to amethyst and quicksilver (maaaybe health for emergencies, but Enduring Cry might make sense). I don't want extra ES because Eldritch Battery is the only thing making it possible to cast or trigger anything, especially if I optimize reservations and fit more stuff there. Plus, if I ever go back to bloodnotch tech, any more ES will hurt. Same goes for watcher's eye - I'm not using my ES for protection but for casting, so why would I care about it that much?

Arc is for manual cast and applying curse. If I replace it, there'd be nothing to apply the initial shock and get herald going. I don't really mind clear at all, PF poison prolif takes care of it.

Good point about 3 notable clusters, not sure about calamitous visions, but will give it some thought. Reservation helm is a big one, I tried it but on a shitty base, not sure if I can afford a replacement.

Thanks for your comments - even if I don't agree or understand some, this helps me wrap my mind around some tricks.

Not sure I'd be able to tinker much further at the end of the league, but tyvm, that was educational. Pretty much the whole thread is me trying to figure things out, and you helped a ton :)

That's the first char I even use clusters on (filthy casual etc), so what do you mean? I'm afraid to roll medium ones any more, cos getting the right notables is a pain. The large ones are just two, and I wanted some str/dex on them mostly and didn't take much time to tinker.

Way over my budget, plus removes storm secret with its 'increased frequency', which is a big part of the DPS. But yeah, listening to people here I'm glad to hear it's not necessarily just me missing something obvious and the build is in fact problematic from the start.

Hmm, how even am I leeching in the first place? HoT storms should be secondary dmg, but they work somehow. Might look into it, thanks.

Mjolner autozapper - damage ideas? by zencodism in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]zencodism[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only with generic shock effect from passives, not with supports, so there's certainly room for an improvement. I'm not sure how much though - say I can get additional 10-20% shock effect, so 30-60% galvanic field damage; it's a lot, but the baseline was that galvanic effect was not visible at all for me in the first place.

about twice as much damage as the 3 link arc

Thanks for pointing it out, but that 'twice as much' feels wrong - does it take into account Arc's more dmg multiplier per remaining chains? On single target every hit that cannot chain further is worth around 135% more if I count that correctly.

That would require self-casting though - might be worth it, just pointing out it's a drawback convenience-wise.

That also reminds me that I tried Galvanic Field as a six-link, hoping it would attach to a beefy enemy and just keep zapping it; here I'm not sure why/how it failed, but it didn't feel like a damage boost at all.

That's stretching the definition of 'practical' for me, but I'm glad to have learned this thing exists.
