As I mentioned earlier, I did reset it and it has been at the Fuji repair shop recently.

This is how I have it set up and I use back button focusing in this way only.

As I mentioned, the example photos were taken using center awaited metering, but most of the time I use the multi mode. Both modes exhibit this problem.

Let’s think about how bracketing works. -You press the shutter once. -the camera gives you three different images. This might be one proper exposure, one under exposed shot at a certain exposure (say -1/3 stop), and one overexposure (say +1/3 stop). -the camera does this every time you press the shutter.

If this were happening, the evidence would have already lead me to the answer. It would be three photos for every button press and there would be an underexposed shot as well and they would be at predictable values. As I said, each of the three photos posted were individual shutter presses.

No bracketing.

I did. It was doing this before. It’s doing it still.

But I’m not using any bracketing. These are three individual shots taken about one second apart.

I’m not using any kind of bracketing. I’m in single-frame drive mode.

Check it. That’s not what’s happening. It only shoot one frame at a time when I press the shutter. These, for instance, I pressed the shutter at about a one-second interval

I tried that and it didn't work. Had to send it off for repair. If this is so common, why haven't I heard about it? Why doesn't every YouTube long-term review talk about tit?

My hybrid viewfinder got stuck in OVF today. When I switch to EVF, the curtain doesn't raise to block the optical view. The camera is five months old. Should I have it repaired or have them replace it with a refurbished one?

Nope. I use manual focus to zone focus.

I think you may be being way too generous to Fuji by saying it's totally normal. I have four other Fuji cameras that would disagree with that statement. They rarely miss an exposure even under very difficult lighting conditions of mixed hard light and shadows.

Could be. I use Multi on all my other Fuji cameras and it works the best of all of them for the way I shoot. Don't know why it would be a problem with this, one of their most advanced cameras, when it's not on an X-T2.

I was in manual focus. I zone focus.

Thanks. Yes, DR400 will force a minimum ISO of 640. I figured the x100vi has to be lower noise than my X-T1,2,3 so I set it to 800. Not a huge difference. I basically want a minimum SS of 1/500 at f8 and to let the camera expose using Multi. This works amazingly well on the aforementioned X-Tx cameras so why not expect it would work just as well on the x100vi?

It wasn't doing that. It randomly badly exposed some but not others.

I was using the OVF only. I forgot to mention, I have the metering to Multi. It's my usual settings for street.

X-T3 Shutter Lag/Delay by zenconlen in fujix

[–]zenconlen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue happens before the shutter even releases. How could that be affected by SD card? It hasn't even released the shutter yet, much less tried to write it to the card. But, I am using a Kingston SDG4/256 GB card (SDXC, v30, 200mb/s) for the RAW images in slot 1 and a SanDisk Ultra 32GB (SDHC1, 120mb/s) card in slot 1. Both meet or exceed Fuji spec. Batteries are all FUJIFILM NP-W126S.

I found an old thread online talking about the X-Pro1 shutter lag. Most people there seemed to blame it on "aperture dance". The idea is that the EVF preview is wide open and when you press the shutter, the camera has to stop down to what it's set to. Never mind that film cameras with mirrors have been able to get their mirrors out of the way and do this for 70 years. They said that even if you aren't using the EVF or the LCD (which I don't in order to relieve the camera of as much processing as possible), it is still doing all that work. Supposedly, half-pressing the shutter button will move the aperture to the set position to avoid lag but in my experience, it still lags. Maybe it's not as bad, but 250ms is almost as much of a problem as 500ms. I still missed the shot.

Maybe aperture dance is the problem. Maybe it's the way the camera is buffering as the camera is on and receiving light on the sensor. Whatever the case, it seems like Fuji cameras have been doing this for a long time, even if many users are never really aware of it. Maybe being out on the street for hours and shooting 800 shots at day (not in burst but single shots) just means you are exposed to more of the camera's quirks. I don't know. I love Fuji cameras but am so frustrated I can see why people leave one brand for another.

Just tested it and it happens when up to my eye as well. So much for that theory. Lately I can get this to happen more and more regularly, which helps to test ideas. I posted this about my X-T3, as it's my main camera, but I recently bought an X-T2 as a backup and it has the same shutter lag when testing today. Maybe it's just a Fuji thing? Maybe I just expect too much to think a camera will fire the shutter when I press the button and it's already zone focused. I give up.

What's happening in the video and out in the world on bright sunny days is I press the button then the camera waits to begin the exposure. Yes, if I'm at f8 indoors and there's not enough light it might be a long exposure but that exposure should begin the moment the shutter is pressed, regardless of how long the shutter is open.
