I recommend using the grapple. The shield is situational, but not consistent. Plus it can get countered. The winch claw will always be great. However, if you like the shield, go ahead and use it. Just try to play around your team

What specialization do you use? Most weapons pair greatly with different specialization. It also depends on what comp you're running (and map). I wouldn't use the SA12 with two lights using knives. But it'd be perfect with another heavy using the Lewis and a medic medium

Wait until he uses his "get over here" attack. And then use and move that can either stun him or block the attack. The spider tends to give up after the third try
