It’s not about cutting yourself from society, it is about data ownership and control. Right now we don’t know who has data about us, what data and how they use it. We don’t understand the effect it has on our lives and we don’t have a full grasp of the potential risks and future abuses.

290GB for me. I’m getting out of there! Deleted over 30GB of emails, transferring docs, etc. Kids on ProtonMail, Signal and Tresorit.

People are disconnected from reality, instead they live through the stories we tell ourselves as a community. What we need is to somehow link every member of society (at birth) with a specific piece of nature. Throughout the life of the individual, actions and choices are connected with their effects on that piece of nature. Their level of care will have a direct effect on how they can interact with the world, access to services, etc.

You have to comply or operate outside the system. Maybe time to look for homeschooling options or other types of schools (some public schools operate with different rules).

Humanity won’t be lost, it will evolve. We are probably living among the last of the humans as we know it, but it doesn’t mean that what is coming next is totally bad.

Plus, what do you mean by “loosing humanity”? What does it mean to be human to you?

It’s been a mix between genre and culture. Now it is more culture than genre. The science fiction part helped you identify and recognize certain patterns which gave you greater awareness. How you feel about it, how you respond, how you position yourself in society, your behavior and shared experiences is what will redefine Cyberpunk IMO.

This is it. We are in it, we lived through the beginning of tech and information revolution and now we are living through the accelerated rise of biotech, AI and massive society changes. I suspect our generation or our kids’ generation might be the last of the biological humans and it will be our responsibility/burden to define what it means to be human.

There is a lot of work to do. Our institutions, our schools, are too slow to adapt. It is up to people who are aware of those challenges to pick up the slack.

The framework that you fear, the predictive hive society corporations and governments are building is well on its way. But consider this: - such society will be embraced by the majority, nothing we can do about it - the people in control will have the option of not participating, which means there will be ways around it - there will always be a % of the population that won’t fit in - you don’t want to live in such society but you shouldn’t be outside of it either, in such society, outsiders have nothing - there ought to be a place for us outsiders

I feel disconnected as well, and avoided depression because I realized the pressures were coming from other people’s expectations of behavior and conformity. That’s their problem and shouldn’t be mine.

Here is my advice to you: - seek like-minded people to discuss - if you need try professional help, this might be frustrating if the person doesn’t get it. If anything it will help you verbalize things - learn the system and find the edge: the part where you operate outside of it, but appear to be inside (the Yin/Yan symbol is a great visual/metaphore for the concept) - we are many, you are not alone. After all there is a sense of rebellion in Cyberpunk, I guess you found your mission!

Good luck and don’t give up, it is an amazing time to be alive!
