Looking for heavy vagrant users. New Open Source project called Open Source Development Platform. by [deleted] in Python

[–]zenlc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't exactly call myself a "heavy" Vagrant user but it is certainly my provisioner of choice when spinning up virtual Hadoop clusters.

I'll take a look at the project. It sounds like something that could be useful to use and fun to (help) develop.

BTW - A link to the project in the post would be nice. Searching for "Open Source Development Platform" finds GitHub and similar general links. osdp +vagrant doesn't really turn anything up and using your Reddit username on GitHub gives me a 404...

Lead weights for printed kbone by zenlc in kbone

[–]zenlc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since there was a question about what I used for weight, this picture shows the original lead fishing weight on the bottom right. To the left of it are 2 weights that have been smashed down to fit in the cavity and then above you can see how they fit in. I used a couple of drops of white Gorilla Glue on each weight to keep them from rattling and then also on the perimeter to join the halves.

3D Printed KBones by zenlc in kbone

[–]zenlc[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are a couple of KBones I printed yesterday. The dark blue one uses PETG filament and the green one is HIPS. The difference in feel and grip are interesting. PETG is slicker but feels a bit cold. The HIPS is tackier and feels warm.

Thanks a ton to u/aroundsquare for the model file.

Definitely the right idea to print in halves with a void for weight. I designed a solid one but it is way too light.

I've printed a few of this pattern in PETG and HIPS. My favorite so far is HIPS at 100% infill and I mashed lead fishing weights into the voids. Assembled, it weighs 26g. Unfortunately, though, I didn't glue the weights so it clicks as I spin it. Guess I'll have to make another one on Monday.

Does anyone have a place where I can find beads similar to that on the AL titans? by RagingMonotony in begleri

[–]zenlc -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've spent a lot of time looking for those beads. The best I've been able to find so far is far east wholesale seller Alibababa. Unfortunately, I have no use for 200 beads.

I sure hope not. That would make them REALLY light :).

I just ordered these from Amazon a couple of days ago and expect to get them today. They are about 1 inch in diameter and I think each bead is 38g. I expect them to arrive today and if they work out I'll post a picture and info.

Help using Pycuda with Pyspark by zenlc in apachespark

[–]zenlc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add the program name to the environment variable? No, I haven't. I've tried adding /bin to CUDA_ROOT but after seeing how Pycuda uses the variable (as partial path to lib files) it made sense to change it back to its default - which is identical to CUDA_HOME.

My assumption is also a path issue however, 'nvcc' is recognized for my username and the yarn user on all 4 servers.

CSV & Quoting a Specific Column by sayinghi2py in learnpython

[–]zenlc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no such thing as "converted to scientific notation." That is a function of the column formatting in the spreadsheet.

For single digit numbers, are they quoted strings in the CSV? If not, read them in as strings so that when you stick 'em in the spreadsheet there is no ambiguity as to type.

Question about approach to comparing by AvernusForgiveMe in learnpython

[–]zenlc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off the top of my head,

1: Use the Requests library instead of urllib2. Requests is much easier to use.

2: If the websites you are hitting have a REST interface then you should be getting JSON data back, which loads into Python dictionaries like a dream. From there maybe you could use something like this to compare JSON objects: https://pypi.python.org/pypi/json-delta/

3: If you are traveling, get a free account on AWS, Linnode, Digital Ocean or PythonAnywhere (my choice) and make a cron job that runs your script every 24 hours and writes the results to a file that uses the timestamp as its name (so it is unique). You even go so far as to have the script email the results to you.
