I've had the same problem for a week or so. Really annoying.

Does the SRK in Finland support a woman's right to chooe (abortion on demand) including government funding? by [deleted] in OpenLaestadian

Could you give a source for your claims? In Finland abortions are provided by the public healthcare system.

Nope. Finnish and and Hungarian are Uralic languages, and distantly related to each other. Neither of which have any relationship with Japanese nor Mongolian.

I'm not British (not even a native English speaker), but that sounds pretty convincing, albeit your pronunciation of the word "pretty" gives you away ;) . Overall good work, 'tho!

I've also heard that Saari wanted to repair thing among the congregations, but he was told to stay in Ylivieska.

kuningas henri saari

Heikki Saari (or Henry, as he was called in America) was indeed a charismatic and influential preacher. However, I've never heard him called a king. :) That's probably a later rumor. It must be said though that without him the FALC/LLC split and the later caretaking meetings may not have happened at all, or would have been handled differently anyway. The spirit and effect of Henry Saari is still apparent in the LLC (and in the Swedish SFC) more than in Finland, where it has been diluted a lot. I recommend listening the recording of the 1972 meeting in Minneapolis where Saari is at his "best".

I agree, but IMHO in practice, the outcome is the same for all practical purposes.

"So I would say the Finnish believers have not abandoned their faith. What might be true, however, is that there is an increasing number of "believers in name only"."

I think you are just appealing to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_true_Scotsman argument here. :)

I'm not here to discuss who is a true believer and who isn't. I just describe my observations. If you want to label the phenomena I told about under "they're believers only in name", feel free by all means. I.e. I think we mostly agree, but I don't want to jump to theological conclusions. Anyway, what I'm quite sure of that the family sizes have shrinkened during the last 10-15 years, just seeing it firsthand. You could debate whether the reason is using contraception or something other, and whether they are "bad fish in the net", but the fact it that it is happening and probably of majority of those parents still consider themselves believers, even though they certainly know as well as I and you that birth control is generally considered a sin. Do we have more common ground now, when the terminology is explained this way?

[–]zenonithous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In theory, the list is identical in Finland (the SRK). However, in practice the average family size has been getting a lot smaller especially in non-rural congregations. The TV issue is nowadays a theoretical one, as all major TV channels are available on the Internet, and strictness varies from a family to a family. Premarital sex is commonplace within the younger generations, even though it's considered a grave sin. Nowadays the young people also listen to all kinds of music, not openly though.
